I'd have the 960 because I use the walkman features.

I use the 950 at the moment for that reason, despite the fact I could use the P990, M600 or P1 as I have them all in my desk!

P1 is a really good phone though.

The touch screens are different because the P1 is recessed like the M600/W950. The W960 screen is flush with the surface. No idea on scratches.

I'd take that size comparison thing as a rough guide only as the shapes are wrong.

So is it a good thing or a bad thing if the w960 screen is flushed with the surface?
and talking about walkman features? wat exactly are they about?does it just mean stronger and better sound? i have never used a walkman phone...... is it not the same if i get a p1 and install a good audio software on it such as lcg jukebox or something....?

i think i'll be getting the W960i, which is so far my ideal upgrade... (i say so far cause by the time it's released, SE might have another announcement...)

first reason : design, but that's purely objective of course

second : it has everything P1 has, and then some, except of course for the qwerty keyboard, which i don't mind not having.

finally the walkman player is supposed to be better than the generic media player in the P1 (or at least we should expect it to be so, with the Walkman brand and all...)

Looks better from a design point of view. More likely to get finger marks on it (but then it's a touch screen so that happens anyway).

I've not compared the sound from the P1 and W960 (will have to try that next week) but I would expect the W960 to be better. The media player is better than the stock P1 player. You get the album art and the navigation of tracks is better.

Maybe installing a good music app on the P1 you would get something similar.

I just think the W960 looks cooler

Something else to consider when comparing these phones, which was realised in another thread - the P1i will be much easier to use one-handed than the W960i.

Why? Because the P1i features the M600's keyboard which includes two little left and right arrow buttons (overlaid on the * and # keys) which allow you to switch between tabs and folders in UIQ3 using the keyboard. The W960i appears to take after the W950 in not having these keys, or any equivalent, meaning you have to keep prodding the screen instead - usually with your other hand.

... in order to reach those * and # while holding the phone single-handedly, one will need Gollum-like fingers....

you need to twist your thumb all the way in to reach the * key. The hash key is slightly more reachable...

lol, I'm not in work at the moment so don't have my P1 to hand.

I can't really compare applications/features anyway as early software builds won't necessarily have the final application set.

It's quite comfortably done on the M600 - I've been using it this way since November and my thumbs are no different to yours, I'll wager...

I tend to use the M600/P1 keyboard two handed anyway - much faster that way. It's a great keyboard for texting and web browsing when you get used to it. I still sometimes use the on-screen keyboard.

On the W950/W960 I use regular predictive text input, which is slower. If I have more text to write, I'll use the on screen keyboard.

I don't use the handwriting recognition much as I am left handed so the gestures don't feel natural to me. I'd also like the option of having scrollbars on the left of windows, but that's just me being picky

@jimster - actually I agree, if I'm going to type I'll generally use both hands on my M600, it's more comfortable and quicker that way - but it's useful to have the option of one-handed use the rest of the time, and to be able to switch between options etc without getting the pen out.

Personally I'm a big fan of handwriting too - have been ever since the P800 - but only when the mood takes me...
