Looking at the specs I tend to favor the W960. But I think Apple will win in terms of sales because of their superior marketing/branding, especially in the USA. |

when the I phone was anounced I thought wow that is for me.
on reflection I am now not keen it is very expensive, its linked to itunes only (as far as I know) proprietory OS so no 3rd party apps?, No Wi Fi, cant change the battery, and it's not one thing or another, I have the W950 and the W960 looks even better too me.

As I see it the W960i has the following over the iPhone:
3G
MMS,
keyboard
better camera (2mp on iphone with no autofocus compaired to 3mp with autofocus)
possible to use third part apps.
The iPhone has the following over the W960i:
better user interface,
EDGE
better screen

Personally i'd go for the W960i as well. I considered the iPhone when it was announced, but then so much progress has been made since then by other brands including SE, and now they've caught up and even surpassed the iPhone.
Besides, i beware of Apple's relative lack of experience building mobile phones. Maybe the iPhone will miss some vital phone-related functions, though i don't doubt it will be a top-notch offer on the multimedia side. |

As much as I love a touchscreen, you need a decent tactile keyboard as well, so my money would definitely be on a UIQ3 device.
The iphone is interesting, but definitely over-hyped, and I'm not at all convinced the niche is there for it. It's not smart enough for a smartphone, not simple enough to match the ipod's appeal, and not in any way unique - in fact, it's entering a market that the Walkman phones already dominate.

obviously iphone needs to learn how to make mobile phone, as this is their first relase. unreplacable battery is a very old fashioned technology. in addition, in terms of connectivity, W960 has the edge over it |

The W960i has shown that you can still have fancy sweeping graphics on your UI without having to give up the traditional numberpad.
Apple are taking a risk ditching the keypad altogether but if it pays off for them then it'll be amazing.

The i-phone is just a big hype...SE is the only brand that can get the i-pod quality on its phone and also beat it.....! |

Sharp does produce the best quality phone's in my opinion, however it's never going to beat a ipod.
SE just might could, but i think Nokia got best potential to release an ipod killer.

but why is every (incl. me) talking about an iphone killer???
it's just another phone, proble going to sell good. but it's not that special. there are many better phones when it comes to specs.
it's just the hype and PR of apple who's going to make the iphone a succes. .... but i think many people will be disapointed with the phone.

The thing with the iphone, it might not be as good as whatever phone but, more people are talkign about it than any other phone, apple will sell a shedload of them, and like the ipod the later generations will probably get even more popular.

Couldn't agree more. I think of the Iphone more as a gimmicky phone rather than a true mobile powerhouse and people will get bored with it. Here is an example: Take the Cover Flow feature. If you don't remember what it is, it is when you tilt the phone on the side and you can scroll through the music using the album art as your guide. Seems like a cool feature. No other phone can do that right? Right, but then you step back and think about it after the coolness factor wears off, and you think, wait, when am I ever going to use that? I have owned a w800 for the last 2 and a half years, and I have never once thought about wanting to shuffle through my music by album art. Furthermore, with more people buying songs online(or through P2P networks), I would bet most people have no idea what the cover of any album looks like.
Here might be a better example: The picture features. You can resize them and move them and turn them around. Very impressive when you look at the demo. But then you look and see that you can only take 2 mp pics with no AF. So now I can only mess around with really bad to mediocre quality pics. Not only that, but I can't even send or recieve MMS messages. So now I really can't send or recieve pics easily, so what is the point?
I think at the end of the day, people are going to buy it and love it at first just because it is different. But then people are going to shrug their shoulders and realize that all the new features don't make this phone way better or worse than any other phone, just slightly different to use. Then the downsides will start to show, like no third party apps and no tactile feedback from a keypad, and I will be pretty happy with my w960. Sure, it doesn't have cover flow or other random features that don't do a whole lot, but it does give me my music in an efficient way and I have the keypad if I want to use it as well. |
