New SE phones lack of 16M colour screen |

before SE could decide to put 16M screens on their phone they should bear those factors in their mind:
>>first, Battery - the essential thing on all phones, they should discover a new type of battery to success the Lithium-Polymer type which will bring us longer life span and lesser discharge rate and of course smaller the size, but at this moment this is just a dream yet
>>>second is the size - if they used a higher capacity battery it will increase the size, thus will make it more bulky just like E61 to achieve good battery life(imagine if W910 and K850 would have 16M screen and larger capacity battery, then how thick will it be? |

Well all I a can say is if your HTC is screen is no better than your M600 screen it must be one bad screen then as the M600 screen is in no way brilliant which is why they have upgraded it on the P1. In sunlight it is just magical it completely disappears great trick just not for using it though.
Also you really need to all get over this great theory you all have that it just eats battery life also because it may be a little more energy hungry but not anywhere near what you all seem to think.

How can one call the N95, 6300 and such "under achievers"? Just because the N95 needs to be charged daily? I admire Nokia for being leaders and innovators, this is something I can't say about SE of late.
I own a p990i along with an N73. Everyone calls the p990 a failure and all. Even I get frustrated at time but will not call it an "under achiever". I would kill to have an N95 but can't really get one ATM.
Back on topic now:
I think 16M screen would make the SE line up more desirable and, may I say, highend (to me at least) like Nokia's "N" serie.

Yes, to you at least. You are a minority.
But in case it is not obvious enough, SE has pretty much given up the highly technological market and is focusing more on the mass market side where people don't care if their phone really has 16 mil or 256k, they just go for looks and whatever offer they can get from it.
Which is why I have mentioned it a few times earlier how not everyone would notice the difference during every day usage, and not everyone will download videos/movies on their phone for viewing.
With regards to Mobile TV, the compression on those are bad enough that even on a 16mil screen it'll look bad. |

Two reasons:
1. 16M colors make the battery life shorter.
2. The human eye cannot see the difference between 256k and 16M.
1.not necessary shorter. in fact the display shows the same number of pixels, but different colors.it should be any significant difference
2.oh yes it does. maybe your eyes cannot see the difference but the human eye CAN make the difference!

i agree with both of you. why in hell complain about the screen. like roogenial said, you cant see any difference (and if you see some, you must have some kind of hawk-eye).
again, why in hell start this kind of thread, when you know its ends with disagreements.......
edit. the screen on example k8xx is one of the best screen i ever seen. good enough for me.

I said under-achieving in terms of battery life, not as a whole.
But the simple answer is, the benefits don't outweigh the cons.

... the e61 is hardly "bulky" because of the battery - what a bizarre statement!!! It has a fairly large screen in case you hadn't noticed...and a very comfy qwerty!!!

these people have never held a nokia before, same goes for plankgatan who for some god forsaken reason thinks K810 has the best screen. |

Its not all about number of colors that make the screen better.... Is the size, resolution and even his built quality. Thats the reason why some 262k sucks and others look like some 16M. So whats the point of having a 16M if that is the case? Now if 16M behavior under sunlight is always better than a 262k i agree that SE should implement they... but only in that case, otherwise i dont think its necessary |

qvga.
he he he...chill out !
i said, - "one of the best screen i ever seen". (not THE best).
but you have to admit that the screen on k8xx is really awesome ! (i have not seen so many more screens, (in that size) who have more "crispy" look then k8xx).

The one and only reason why I need an SE with 16M color-screen is for the color shading!
I have several wallpapers (that I love a lot) and most of them are seascapes/sky pictures. Full of color gradation and shading and shading is totally messed up in 262k color screens.
I put them in Nokias 16M colors, and they show really fine. But I don't like Nokias since the backlight of their phones suck. They can't even come close SE in term of brightness, saturation and contrast. Only wins in color shading.

Use Photoshop. You can set it to dither it for 262k colour. At 320x240 in a 2.2" space, you might not notice the dithers too much. Not saying this will be as good, but it should help. |

16m colors vs 256k?bottom line is it all depends on the consumer and buying power.
Now what if we reduce this color comparison debate to just these: one gray shade lcd (nokia 6510 ) vs 4 shades of gray(ericsson t39 n its siblings and se t200),which do you prefer given all those considerations you have pointed like under the sun, display, batt life, images, etc.

I think a more valid argument over 16 million vs 262k colors is the screen size -
I'd like to see an SE with a screen that rivals the N90/N80/E70's
More pixels on-screen is always useful when executed right
Though now that I think about it, SE's interfaces do not particularly make the most out of the real screen estate - I came from a K800 with a QVGA screen, but I feel that the Nokia 5500 that I'm using right now (lower res, smaller diagonal) makes better use of the pixels on the screen, exposing more options and tabs at one time, etc, and I'm more productive
