Why u need lens cover when in both cases the camera takes bad pics at all.. K series are Video&pic stuff orientiered.. Not a mix of best of W(music/multimedia line)+ best of P/M(buisness/OS-based line) series in one.. Only gew ppl will buy this phone for it's camera, why should it have lens cover? To be not 119gr, but ~5-6 more+2-3mm less thinner??

I'm not so sure there is no voice calling.. maybe a error in some phone's specs..

P.s Is there and light indicator? As i see on the pics/videos it's in the bottom, just as in P1.. No confirm in the wp..

I am not sure I have ever come across logic like this before.

Unless I mis understand your post, your saying its got a poor quality camera so dont bother protecting the lens?!
The P990i has a truly poor camera but guess what it has a lens cover!

I realise the K series are optimised for pictures and the W series are optimised for music, but lets more forget these are all actually telephones! so compromise will always be the name of the game, still no reason to not offer lens protection IMHO

Exactly this is illogical.. Poor camera protected with lens cover.. With or without lens cover it will be the same poor camera, BUT with a difference-the lens cover will give more weight of the phone and less thickness of the phone..(as in k850 for example, or even the lens cover is in one line with the whole back panel, it needs it's place too.. So why we use lens cover with poor camera? Isn't it useless? I think at least in this model we see this-usless thing is out, great job SE

Ok than, as u say-never mind

P.s The compromise is an interesting discusion.. but not for this thread..
I will jsut mantion-One year before now I had I-Mobile 902 with 5mpx CCD sensor from Sony+xenon flash+16M(!) QVGA screen+8mpx with interpolation+128mb internal mem+microsd(supporting 2gb-in year before there were only 1gb microsd released..) all this for 350euro at the launch of the phone(without vats, main was direct from the manufacterer) and it did unimaginary pics for a phone.. Since soon I sold my 902, but my friend still has one piece..
So don't tell me "compromises".. The mobile companies can do much better phones with better cameras etc.. But they don't.. Why? Cause it's not necesarry.. The stf ppl still buys milions of they "camera"(chinise low-quality cmos sensor+diod/flash in the better case) phones for hundreds euros.. And they don't care.. Also a way of policity and parthnership between the different leaders.. yes, it's strange, but a fact..

I think manufacturers don't go all out on the specs because they could hurt other areas of their business, they would prefer to go for a smoother transition.

If you take Samsung, LG and SE to a lesser extent, they are part of big corporations which have divisions working in the MP3 market, the Disgital photography market and the GPS market. So while they might have the technology in house, they don't really want to put everything in one device because first the device would be very expensive putting it in a niche market plus it would lead to a loss of profit of the previously cited.

However Nokia and Motorola are not part of such corporation so they have to invest in R&D or buy smaller companies to get their patents and technological knowledge. It costs money so they're taking baby steps (especially Motorola).

Two questions:
1. beasue this is a UIQ 3.1 phone, will blackberry connect be available for it.

2. Will it have the same handwriting recognition that the p990 and p910 have?

Thanks in advance.

1. This is UIQ 3.0 phone, and yes, it will supports blackberry connect just as P1

2.Ofcourse! Maybe even optimized.

@remirez Exactly.. and thats so logical and viewable.. Sony sells milions of cameras, and what would happen if SE provide an Phone with ultra great Camera, that in fact will camera+gsm modul and keypad.. Sony will loss bilions of dollars not once, but non-stop in the future.. Just as u said, same things with Samsung and other brands.. Nokia and Motorla don't has such a buisness, BUT if they wanna insert and ultra camera in a phone, thath will be super hit, the sensor's producer will be exactly this companies, or even different-in both cases they will want bilions.. Just as the quantum and others now.

8 pages ago I would've thought the SAME thing But another informed me different.

There is more to digital cameras's than just zoom, Red Eye Reduction, FLash etc of the basics. The quality is STILL superb for distance and close ups. You can see the difference when actually PRINTING! Sony's digital camera business has nothing to worry about. Sales of digital cameras are STILL very high, and will remain so because they're they BEST QUALITY alternative to cellulose film bases cameras. They also allow for quality lenses regardless of the Carl Zeiss brand used on Nokia phones its not the same ENTIRE technology that goes into an SLR or $300-400 point & click - est 7-10mp on the market today.

Phone cameras are too slow for anything other than static shots. In fact most compact cameras are on the slow side when you are used to using SLRs.

@jimster

care to post a little review ? or some pics?

loud speaker, louder than k800??? though of course speaker details are subject to change (like grille holes changes, the materials for resonant etc) as its a proto, but still, id like to know, if it comes with a little more bass level than k800, would be great, and tad higher volume..... oh and music quality through headphones too , how is it? (again i know it can change in release version)

cheers
