I thought I was with for life. Now, Nokia is looking better and better

My third W810 in 9 months has quit working My first one, purchased July 2006, had to be replaced 10 hours after I first bought it when the phone would only show a solid white screen on power-up. My second one lasted me from then until last month, when the camera auto-focus started seizing up, and the FastPort became increasingly random in recognizing accessories (or not). My last replacement was fine, except for the app sometimes crashing when playing AAC files, and the To-Do list showing all reminders in GMT (even though I'm in GMT -7).

Last night, I turned it off and plugged in the charger. This morning, the phone once again displayed only an unrecoverable, solid white screen. Note that I have not dropped, bumped, or exposed this phone to moisture. I almost never use the USB cable (only once, for SEUS, which went fine) - I transfer files via the MSDP in a USB card reader. And I take perfect care of this phone, just like all my past ones - it rides with me in a padded leather case on my belt, never in a pocket.

Clearly, the days of the T616 are gone. That phone survived 4 years and three owners without a hint of trouble. My old T637 still looks and works like new. My S710a - well, it was good for 6 months until the and earpiece quit on it. Figuring that was just a spot of bad luck, I bought the W810 - and am now thinking of leaving

I am extremely close to buying a Nokia E50 and an iPod Nano, because clearly, phones cannot be relied upon for all-in-one usage. Not to mention all of the accessories I bought - extra chargers, MMC-60 cable, HBH-60 car holder, MRC-60 stereo remote control stand, 4GB MSDP - are now just lots of $$$ pissed down the drain

clearly those days are gone, some just dont accept the bitter truth.
get the E50, the joystick is a bit stiff but overall a mind blowing device for its price.

@qvga
or some just dont experience these problems perhaps.....

i for one can say out of all the phones ive owned, none have given me any trouble. One or two may have had very minor software issues, but nothing to stop phone from functioning. And which were fixed with a new firmware update....

you get faulty phones no matter what brand you buy. guess im just lucky ive had no real problems with over the years..... Samsung phones ive owned also been very reliable too, just that samsung make some weird decisions when it comes to phones. ie, no mp3 as msg tone, or in d900 cant save video directly to mem card.....

I have to say that my first SE was a R38z, then i gave it away to buy a motorola c333, big mistake...then I went back to SE with the k700, loved it, so i finally bought the w810, the perfect mobile for me!!!! never had problems with it.

if you bought your phones in the same place, probably that place is getting messed up phones for resale. just a thought. but at the end...it's your money so use it wisely.

I think it's just bad luck, I've not had trouble with my W810. Well nothing major anyway, all the problems I've had seem to sort themselves out everytime. Try upgrading to one of the new ones, but then again, I gather you hate the side mounted FastPort.

The last two phones came directly from as warranty replacements. If they can't provide me with a reliable phone, who can

Same happened to me when i had a W900i when i had my Vodafone contract years ago they just kept sending me a replacement which had same fault which means its a faulty batch of phones which all have same firmware. Orange always used to do the same and when you explain to customer services about it being the firmware problem they aint got a clue what your talking about.

If the HBH-__ and MRC-60 worked with the W610, the side-mounted FastPort wouldn't bother me so much...

Here's what I'm considering to replace my W810, with links to a reputable US on-line dealer, in no particular order:

I'm really leaning towards the E50, as it's the cheapest, and doesn't have non-US-compatible 3G like the others. Not to mention that I've always loved iPods - not a very popular opinion here, but one I've earned through my experiences with and without one.

i have a m600 for 7 months and no problems at all
i owned a k750 for about a year and no problems
a k800 resisted several months
all of these phone i had didn't showed any problems(well, m600 had some problems, but updating software solved them)
i think you are either not having care of them or having bad luck
