No, you will be given a totally generic sim free handset. No simlock or branding.

I've been looking everywhere for one of these. The cheapest I have been able to find it is £149.99 on O2, but thats only in White. Typical, they have the grey one available but only on contract!

I've read a few posts about people getting a sim free grey one from Carphonewarehouse for £139.99 - is this correct? Seems really cheap for a sim free phone? Also does anyone know if this applies to all stores, as I've just looked on their website and I can't even see it on the PAYG section!

If the White one is available on O2 payg for £149.99, then perhaps the grey one will follow suit. I would imagine the grey one would be more popular though!

As I said in the other thread, I went into CPW in Birmingham after work on Monday, but they didn't have the phone on display at all and all the assistants were busy with customers so didn't get to ask anybody. Popped into Phones4u which is just down the road and they only had it on contract.

I can't get to the CPW till Saturday, but I am unsure and may hold onto my W810i a bit longer.

I guess that's a no then... Looks like it's £150 now then. I wonder if they will knock money off if you top up more like Orange do? If you top up by £30 on Oranges web site they will knock £20 off the price of the phone. As long as you are going to use the credit then that makes it better deal...

Anyone know if the SE online update service works on a W580i from O2? Just ordered one as an upgrade from them...
TIA!

You don't need to do that.....go into the setup wizard on the phone and slect operator settings. The settings will automatically be installed and applied as per the sim in the phone.

I bought a new unlocked, unbranded W580i a week ago, as an upgrade from my old W810i. I thought long and hard about doing this, as I really didn't want to lose the auto focus facility, and to a lesser extent the light, but do prefer the slider format and, being a much newer phone, there are many subtle improvements, for instance the fact that you can use more phone functions in flight mode, and the clock shows in Walkman mode, and also in text message writing etc, etc.

Although I very much like the new phone, there is one area where it is inferior to the W810i that I definitely wan't expecting - it just isn't as loud at maximum volume, when comparing the 2 with graphic equalisers on the same settings. I like my music quite loud, and the W810i was satisfactory but the W580i leaves me constantly wanting more.

Has anyone else found this, of do you think that it could vary from phone to phone?
