Help please! My mum is off to the USA tomorrow, and just called me to ask if her phone will work in the USA? Have searched the net for specs. on this phone all i know is its pink and called VK530, and can't seem to find any.. I'll be honest, i don't really understand what this tri and quad band stuff is all about.. Any help gratefully appreciated.

If this is indeed dualband 900/1800 then IT WON'T WORK in the US of A! We have here 850 and 1900 !!!

Since masseur removed his own post I have to add:
if your phone is triband, then chances are that it also has the 1900, so it would be 900/1800/1900 and then it will work with t-mobile and cingular/att on their 1900 band.

According to this :
http://www.gsmarena.com/vk_mobile_vk530-1028.php
it's dual-band, but apparently there are two versions : 900/1800 and 850/1900 (for Northern America).
So it won't work, unless your mother has the American version.

Presumably the mother comes from Europe and there is NO 850 band or 1900 band. So it should not be of any concern.
