Hello everyone,
After purchasing the W950i and hbh-ds970 and selling my trusted qtek s100 and ipod nano I thought that I was just a step away from the "unplugged Nirvana". No more lost calls and no more cables to fight or change with..Unfortunately even if we are living in 2007 we are still chasing the rainbow..

The W950i's low volume output made me search the Internet to find some uncapping patch for the phone as I did with my ipod. (I found gopod in a matter of minutes so I thought that the patch for the W950 would be found easily). Nothing was available out there and all the hints led me to esato. I think is the best source for SE phones info anyway..

Everybody was convinced that by changing the CDA of the phone into a not european one would remove the EU limiter but things were not exactly like that..

Phantom Ewb was the first one to report a no volume difference for the newer generic firmware then next day I got my phone back reflashed as well..
No, the generic firmware doesn't uncap the w950i..
The music is coming out out a little more satisfying now and a little more hefty..you could say that is volumed up at about 2 clicks but unfortunately you couldn't call this "uncapping".. - It takes some days to find out that the volume is a little better. For example going at the gym you find out that the volume now is more satisfying than before and you hear no more people shouting doing their workout.. -

So what do you do then?

One sollution is to sell it and buy something else..I really thought of that but what to buy as an allrounder? Only Tytn came to my mind but it has problems with A2DP .. Ppc phones offer high volumes with excellent available software but is on the complex-heavy side of devices.. I'd like just an ipod with a phone ..
So waiting for the iphone I think I got some excellent sollutions to give:

1. Download MP3GAIN http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/
Set the gain for every song up to 97 or 99 db no more than that..
You'll notice a real volume gain along with a healthy bass boost.
MP3Gain doesn't render the song's gain and you can undo the changes anytime you want. (I apply mp3gain directly to the w950i storage so I don't have to mess at all with my music library).

2. Get a new pair of earphones that is LOUD!!
By the way I'm selling my HBHds970 for just 50 pounds (almost unused in their box, PM me), cause simply they are not loud.. They are not so pathetic as the bundled earphones but their volume is on the medium side compared with loud headphones. Though their quality is perfect and would be perfect on a loud system they are losing points here..
So if you want loud earphones get Shure e4c and e5c and from the cheaper side the Creative EP-480 which are unbelievable loud. The volume gets twice as high compared with the SE HBHDS970.

3. Buy an A2DP BT stereo adapter that lets you plug your own earphones.
Get the Motorola S705 Bluetooth Soundpilot http://www.motorola.com/motoi[....]details.jsp?globalObjectId=152 or the HTC S100 Bluetooth Stereo Headset http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=140289 , plug those loud EP-480 and everything is loud as it should..

Generally look for earphones having 64 or 32ohms impedance, cause I think that makes them loud..16ohms or less are probably for loud systems and not for our asthenic W950i..

And don't forget:

1. Wait for SEUnlock to come out with the volume patch..
2. Email continuosly SE about the volume crap so as to know that they cannot make music devices that don't play music..(is as if a serious weapons manufacturer would produce guns that don't kill..Ok we now loud music deafens but is up to the customer to decide..)
3. Wait for the iphone.. (as if we didn't wait for the W950i..lol..who knows if the iphone will be ok?)

Sorry if being long, share your volume stories or describe clever tricks for volume gain or reveal a headset that is really LOUD!!
Thank you...

Please tell us when and if you'll buy the motorola BT sound pilot..

I'll Keep on posting in this thread earphones with 32ohms impedance..I think it's time to make a loud earphones collection!!

"..the sound was so loud that made my ears hurt!!"

Yes..this is what I always wanted to say with my W950i and yesss this is what I'm saying now:

THE SOUND OF MY W950i IS SO LOUD THAT MAKES MY EARS HURT!!

I just bought the PMX 70 Sport Sennheisers, they have 64 ohms impedance and SE built W950i probably on these earphones!! Just that..

Is too loud to listen in full volume and the quality espessially with EQ set to Rock is unbelievable..The bass drive must be heard to be believed..and all that for just 35 euros..WOW!!

Now I'm only waiting for Motorola's sound pilot to be released http://www.expansys.com.gr/p.aspx?i=139893 and music heavens here we come!!..

Sure it's going to be LOUD!!
Thank God they are so cheap and even we can play with them..
Buy them and write down your opinion in this thread please..

We are a small community, we the "I want a loud W950i", but seems that noone is helping us, so we shall help ourselves..!
And as I can see, a month that I'm in this forum, yes it can work..

Seunlock is working on the volume patch, which IMHO, will be reality soon..
I listen to a loud W950i since I bought my new 64 ohms sennheisers and that's surely a nice start..We have a long way to go!!

Now, about OMC-50 you want to buy..The only thing you should worry about is the nice fit! If it won't fit nice either you won't have any bass at all or even will fall off your ear.. I bought also MXL 70 VC Sport and having small ears I could listen to music only by holding them..Why don't you try PMX 70 Sport? I have the more difficult ears for earphones and there is no way for them to lose the fit!! 100% loud music!!

Later on I'll make a list with all the best 32 and 64 ohms earphones I can find in the web..Mind that both 32 oms earphones are as loud as the 64 ones..I don't know how is this happening but I'll bet we all bought a strange thing for a telephone guys..lol..

What should i care about ? The decibels or the ohms ?

Now, i have a HBH-DS970, but the volume is too still f**king low,
and the video playback...

Edit: I like the PMX-70, but I got only black clothes, so that green colour won't really fit...but i will think about it once more :=)

I didn't tell you not to buy OMX-50..I told you just to be careful with the fit.. The OMX-50s are loud for sure, but if not fitted perfectly simply don't work..
My advice? Buy both PMX-70 and OMX-50 and write a small review for the later..
Second thought..Check the web again!!OMX-50 have an assymetric cable (some people don't like it at all, I am one) and have a remote in the cable (heavier and not practical for my likes)..Maybe try OMX 90..Sure fits your styling.

Now about impedance and desibels:
Desibels describe the sound limits an earphone can play and impedance how loud an earphone can go on a given amplified source..cause things can get complicated here take a look at the link beyond:

I prefer only in-ear (ear-plugs) headphones as they fit me very well (they usually come with different earbud sizes) and have best noise isolation. However the vast majority of this type of headphones have low impedance - 16 ohm thus they are not so loud. Of course, there are some in-ear phones like Shure, Etimotic but they cost like ipod
So probably will wait either for damn sound patch or decent 30-60 ohm headphones for a good price.
Waiting for Motorola s705 and reviews of it...

Check out these: Creative's ZEN Aurvana http://reviews.cnet.com/Creat[....]vana/4507-6468_7-31951301.html
42 ohms in ear should be deafening!! Consider: 3 times up your EP-630 in your ear!!
They are little expensive but if they get their job done no prob..
I'm looking for in canal high impedance earphones too because they fit me well, but mind you, inear phones can never have stong bass sound, cause bass is low frequency and the lower the freq the bigger the speaker needs to reproduce the bass..
Is strange but indeed when we say that we like that bass out of these headphones we are not talking about what we hear but what we feel..That's why the best headphones for this is the big classic headphones or earphones out of the canal (PMX 70 makes you feel the bass that's why is so good)..
In earcanal earphones we only hear the bass sound, it's a different way of listening to music probably not for us..

Do you have a 3,5mm jack on your w950? I have a M 600i and I have a standard SE jack; i think I have to buy an adapter before getting some good headphones.

I am using the MSI FS310 together with Sony MDR-EX 90 and Audio-Technica ATH-CK7. Sound quality is very good with improved bass and much louder max volume compared to wired. Connection is stable with some minor pops every once in a while, but nothing really disturbing. Overall I am very satisfied.
