i have already mentioned abt this issue in this forum. to let u know more abt this. iam using sony ericsson w700i with airtel post paid gprs connection (99 plan). i surf net with my pc with the help of blue tooth dongle.
somebody talked abt the speed of the port. i think the ports (either serial r usb) speeds should be around 19kpbs atleast, theoritically. when i tried to transfer files from pc to mobile its around 30-45 kpbs. and from mobile to pc its slightly less than that. if the port speed is a constraint, i think, it should not be more than 6-7 kpbs (the speed in case of airtel gprs) while transferring files to and from pc/mobile. airtel ppl claim that they r providing 115kbps. then where is the problem? why r we not getting more speed with airtel gprs connection. is it the problem of service provider or mobile (foget edge here, iam talking abt plain gprs)? if any body has any idea regarding this pls let me know.

reliance mobile claim 104kpbs with their mobile internet connection and they provide around 15-20 kbps. thank u very much in advance...bye

swamy.

For having an EDGE connection in all coverage areas, ur operator should first make all their towers EDGE complaint.

I've heard that in US Cingular leaves out certain towers with low connection capacity, with just GPRS connection even though they have an EDGE enabled network.

If that's the case, u'd hav 2 chek your data connection with 2 EDGE fons, at two different locations. There's no use in contacting ur Airtel Cust Care over this issue. Almost all over there are MUG HEADS...

hey.. the speed u get with GPRS depnds on a lot many things... the most imp. being the radio resources presnt . this also happens to be the weakest link in GPRS....

If many people r using the phones 4 calls around u, u r bound 2 hav a lower speed...similiarly if some 1 else is using gprs around u, u hav 2 share the radio resources with him....

so 115kbps may b more theoritical than practical

The 115 kbps (mine is set to 921) is only the port speed...and is no indication of the actual gprs connection/data transfer between the phone and the airtel (or any other ISPs) server... What a waste
