Recommend me a Mutli-point Bluetooth headset (2 phones paired to 1 headset) |
biggy7 Joined: Jan 29, 2004 Posts: 36 PM |
I'm on a hunt for a multi-point bluetooth headset.
basically i want it to pair to both my phones so if either one rings i can answer it with the headset.
im having a hard time finding models that support this feature, not all new ones do.
the one i have found that looks pretty good is the Plantronics Voyager 510
anyone know of any other headsets that support this feature (multi-point)? if so can you please post below
thanks!

Most Nokia headsets do, and the Plantronics 640 is excellent.

I don't know if there is such a thing. Maybe that's why you can't find data about it. You can't connect two phones on the same headset cuz that's why the phone asks for pairing. Without pairing it doesn't know where to route the call. The same happens to 2 phones and 1 headset - it doesn't know to which phone to send the signal to. Multi-pairing means something else, not that.

STOP talking. You do not know what you are talking about. The Plantronics 640 can pair with up to 8 phones at one time but it can only make a connection to speak with only one phone at one time. If you do not know what you are talking about don't offer advise.
Anyway, as I was saying with confidence, many Nokia headsets support multi-paring, as does the Plantronics 640, and the SE HBH-DS970.
He said multi-point, not multi-paring.

Sapporo: he is saying exactly the same as you. You can pair with many phones, but you can only use one phone at a time. So, in reference to the original question, there is no headset that would communicate with two phones at the same time.
However, a single headset can communicate with two paired devices, as long as they are of different types. Example: a phone and a PC. But only by switching from the one to the other and back.

@michka,
That is not what he said. Read his post again. He says something entirely different. He say it is not possible while it is possible. He then goes on to mention that multi-pairing means something different. Sorry but he does not know what he is talking about.
Anyway, to the originator of this thread, it is possible to have one headset pair to different phones at the same time. However, you can not talk on two different phones with the one headset. Look into the Nokia, or Plantronics headsets. They tend to work better.

Here's one headset wich can be paired with the normal 8 phones BUT ALSO toggles between the two latest paired phones just throug a simple push of a button on the headset:
http://www.cardowireless.co.uk/scala700/specs.php
I've tested it myself and it works fine when swapping between phones. It also has excellent sound quality and comfort.
Still not exactky what the poster asked for though since you can only swap between phones when both phones are in standby mode. And it still only rings when call is received in the phone that is connected for the moment.

thanks for all your replies, they are much appreciated!
sorry to confuse people, i knew this would happen.
i know multi-point and multi-pairing are different
i know 2 phones cant be paired to the SAME headset at the same time, so theres an active link to both phones, but i wanted one that could toggle between 2 phones so if either of them ring i can just press the bluetooth headset button so it will answer the call
since posting my question i have found a few that may do what im looking for
1. Cardo 700 (thanks to poster above!)
2. BlueAnt X3 Micro
3. Plantronics 510/640
4. i-Tech Bluetooth Clip II Mini Headset with Multi-point : http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/12178.htm
im gona have to see if i can demo some of them before i buy.
if anyone know any more models, please let me know
thanks

@sappo,
Maybe YOU should read his post again!
And try to understand what he wanted to say, instead of forcing him to say what YOU want him to say.
This being said, I certainly agree that he was not clear, confusing pairing and connecting.
But that's not a reason to treat him like you did.
Be kind and gentle with people who make mistakes, pal. That's how we can live in peace and learn from each other.

My friend you are a bit mistaken. A headset can be multi-point and multi-paired at the same time. The difference is that with a multi-point headset, it can ONLY link to one phone in an active conversation at a time. Example, the Plantronics 640 ( I have one, is paired to both my k800i, my Nokia E61, and my MacBook Pro concurrently). The rub comes in if: I am making a phone call with my E61 and headset connected, and then my k800i rings, the headset will ignore any attempts to make a connection and will continue the connected conversation with the E61.
So, as you can see, you can have one headset paired to many different phones at the same time.

lol, thanks for the info
i already konw this info, i just failed to explain my self properly
this is what i want to do:
i have 2 phones, both are in my pocket.
if phone number 1 rings you press the button on the headset to answer, you talk and you hang up.
if phone number 2 rings you press the button on the headset twice (dependant on headset option) to answer, it will automatically switch to phone number 2, you talk and you hang up.
obviously if both phones ring at the same time, the headset will only be able to answer the one (primary) phone.
i have 2 phones and i just want a headset that will work with both phones without the need for me to trawl through the phone menu's and search for bluetooth>pair etc etc
i hope that makes it clear |

Got you. I understood from the start.
Check the Nokia headsets, get the Plantronics 640 and you are in business.

Hi Folks,
I've not changed my headset for a while (HBH-10, HBH-60, HBH-65, HBH-610), so maybe the market has changed, but as I understand it....
On my HBH-60 - so we're talking about a headset a few years old - I could pair to up to 5 phones. ie. each phone would know about the headset, and if they rung, they would pipe the call through to the headset. The headset could store pairings (ie. IDs) with up to 5 phones. So if any of these devices rung, the headset would ring, and pressing the answer button would connect the call. No need to select which phone, press any buttons twice, or three times, or whatever.
Of course, the headset didn't have complex call handling, so if originating a call from the headset, it would automatically connect to the last-paired device - usually my t68.
Isn't this still the case? Can any of these new devices seamlessly just accept calls from multiple devices, or do you now have to select each device manually?
Also - if anyone wants to suggest a headset that can replace the HBH-60... ie. small, light, comfortable ear-loop, easy to slip on/off, discrete / matt finish, decent bluetooth range - please let me know! I tried out an HBH-610 a while back: shiny finish was a pain, design looked too 'stick-like', and the DSP was over-zealous. And I only wedge things in my ear if there's a medical necessity.

@dskeeles,
If you read this thread from start to finish, you will gather all the info that you need regarding headsets as well as recommendations on what to buy.
