May I ask what you found not to be good about SyncMyPortable?

I'm the author of the SyncMyPortable program and I try very hard to make it work well for folks. If you provide me with some feedback, I'd be more than happy to try and improve the app in the areas where it may be lacking for you.

BTW, I actually have a new version of SyncMyPortable ready to be released that works MUCH better with iTunes v7 and the newer SE UIQ3 devices. It has improved playlist support for the UIQ3 devices (since they require absolute paths instead of relative ones) and it now works with the new downloadable album artwork feature in iTunes v7.

The only reason I haven't released it publically yet is because I'm waiting to backwards compatibility test it with iTunes v5 and v6 just to make sure that the updates don't cause problems with the older versions of iTunes (which many of my customers still have and use on a daily basis).

If you'd like to try out the new version of SyncMyPortable (i.e. Version 1.17) to see if it works any better for you, then you can download the update directly from here:

http://www.SyncMyPortable.com/Update117.exe

Since it's an update, you'll need to have one of the prior versions installed before you can install the update (i.e. just install the update right over the top of any existing installed version). As always, the current release version of the program can be downloaded from its home site here:

http://www.SyncMyPortable.com

-- MIKE (The Office Maven)

Here's the change log for the new 1.17 update:

Version 1.17.0038 - November 14, 2006

- Added support for iTunes v7 (including the new library/playlist structure, etc.).

- Added support for handling new iTunes downloaded album artwork. Downloaded iTunes album artwork can now be saved as a separate JPG image in the song's album folder and/or embedded within the song file itself (via "Add album artwork JPG to album folder" and "Embed album artwork within audio files" settings in the SyncMyPortable's Advanced Preferences dialog box).

- Renamed the "Set up album artwork for WMP mobile" setting in Advanced Preferences to "Add album artwork JPG to album folder".

- Renamed the "Standardize album artwork in MP3 files" setting in Advanced Preferences to "Embed album artwork within audio files".

- Renamed the "Choose higher rated items" setting in Advanced Preferences to "Choose top rated items".

- Changed the default M3U playlist creation type from extended to simple.

- Added the ability to use absolute paths in M3U playlists. You can now select the drive letter to be used in the absolute path from a new "Absolute path" drive letter drop-down list located in the Advanced Preferences dialog box.

- Removed the "Add leading backslash to relative paths" setting from Advanced Preferences due to space limitations. You are now prompted to use a leading backslash (or not) when selecting the "Relative path" radio button option in Advanced Preferences.

- Added support for audiobooks. Audible books from Audible.com (e.g. .AA) files are recognized as audiobooks, as are all audio files (MP3, M4A, etc.) that have their genre set to "Audiobook" or their "Remember playback position" option enabled within iTunes.

- Added "Group audiobooks by: artist or album" setting in Advanced Preferences. You may also change the name of the folder where the audiobooks will be grouped. The default folder name is "Audiobooks".

- Added a Synchronization/Copy Statistics message box display upon successful completion of the sync/copy process.

- Changed the default "Show Track Dropper in iTunes" setting to disabled. Note: If want to have the Track Dropper displayed in iTunes, you can re-enable it in the SyncMyPortable Preferences dialog box.

- Changed the default Mass Storage Device (MSD) "Auto-detect action" setting to "None" (i.e. take no action on auto-detection of the MSD). Note: If you still want to have the Autofill Device dialog box displayed whenever your MSD is auto-detected, you change this setting back to "Autofill device" in the SyncMyPortable Preferences dialog box.

- Corrected a problem where copies of song files (named as "Copy of ...") were sometimes left behind in the iTunes Music folder when using the "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" setting in iTunes Preferences.

- Corrected a problem where songs were sometimes removed from the iTunes library when using the "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" setting in iTunes Preferences.

Sure... Here's a step-by-step set of instructions on how I use SyncMyPortable with my UIQ3 device (I have a W950 and so that's what I'm using as a reference - the M600 and P990 may be slightly different):

1) Make sure that you are using version 1.17 or later of SyncMyPortable (I posted the download link to the v1.17 update above).

2) Start iTunes (preferably the latest v7 release) and create a new playlist to sync up with your phone.

3) Fill the new playlist with the songs that you want added to your phone. You can do that easily by simply dragging and dropping the songs from the main music library into your newly created playlist.

4) Once you have your playlist setup exactly as you want it in iTunes, connect up your phone to your PC as a Mass Storage Device (i.e. plug it in via its USB cable and make sure that you're in fast file transfer mode) and then start SyncMyPortable.

5) Right mouse click on the SyncMyPortable tray icon (i.e. the little portable audio device that appears down by your system clock) and select "Autofill Device" from the popup menu that appears.

6) In the Autofill Device dialog box that opens, select your newly created playlist in the "Autofill from" drop-down list.

7) Select the "Preferences" button to open the SyncMyPortable Preferences dialog box.

If you'd like to have SyncMyPortable convert your music files to a specific format (e.g. MP3 or AAC), then select the type from the "To this preferred audio format" drop-down list. Note that I always prefer using AAC/M4A formatted music with my SE phones as they seem to sound much better on the device than MP3 files do (but converting a large number of songs can be time consuming).

8 ) Select the "Advanced" button to open the SyncMyPortable Advanced Preferences dialog box.

If you want to have the audio file's album artwork display on your phone (assuming it has artwork that is), then select the "Add album artwork JPG to album folder" item under Miscellaneous Settings. Doing this will force SyncMyPortable to add a JPEG formatted image to the album folder on the phone for each of your audio files (the ones that have album artwork that appears in iTunes anyway). The media player on your phone will recognize these images and display them when the music is playing.

Note that you can also select the "Embed album artwork within audio files" option if you'd prefer to have the album artwork embedded within the audio files themselves before they are sent to your phone (copies are made and so your original files are NEVER modified!). The media player on the phone should be able to pull the embedded images out of the audio files and display them when the music is playing. I'd only select this option if the other one doesn't work properly for you since it will slow things down a bit by forcing SyncMyPortable to modify every file before it is sent over to your phone.

If you want to have SyncMyPortable generate a M3U playlist for you that matches the playlist you created in iTunes, then select the "Generate M3U playlists for all audio files" setting. Note that the "Relative path" option is enabled by default, but the UIQ3 devices seem to require absolute paths be used in the M3U playlists instead. Thus, be sure to select the "Absolute path" option. From the drop down list, select the drive letter that you want used for the absolute path in your M3U files. This should be "D" for your memory stick (i.e. the phone sees your memory stick as a removable "D:" drive).

9) Close both the Advanced Preferences and the Preferences dialog boxes.

10) click on the "Autofill" button in the Autofill Device dialog box and let SyncMyPortable work its magic for you.

Note that this looks like a lot of steps, but once you've set things up the first time, SyncMyPortable remembers all of your settings and so the next time you go to use it, all you have to do is click on the "Autofill" button.

As you become more familiar with the program, you can explore its other settings/features (of which there are LOTS!). The program has a really nice help file that explains what each and every setting does and gives you lots of tips on how to go about using the program.

If you have any other questions, I'll do my best to try and answer them for you.

I hope this helps some.

@nisargpatel,

here is a simple solution

Just use this

http://www.download.com/OneClickPlay/3000-2169_4-10156406.html

You copy OneClickPlay.exe to the ms pro duo folder where you like to make the playlist, run it, and it automaticaly creates the .m3u file

Then you have to refresh the music database on the phone, in order for it to find the newly created playlist

Later, if you want to change the songs inside the playlist, you have to delete the older playlist file and run the app again

Doesn't sound all that simple to me when you look at the bigger picture...

SyncMyPortable creates the playlists automatically for you as its copying the music to your phone. With the tool you've mentioned, you have to manually move all of the music to your phone (and manually organize it into artist\\album folders, etc.) and then copy that program and run it on the device to get your playlist.

SyncMyPortable handles it all for you in a single shot (i.e. it copies the music to your phone and properly organizes it, sets up the album artwork for you, and creates the M3U playlists).

Couldn't get any easier than that IMHO.

Fair enough...

The reason my steps are so long/involved is that I was trying to help out folks who know absolutely nothing about the program at all (in fact, if you already know how to use iTunes, then half of the steps can be taken away right off the bat). If you're at all familiar with my program, then it's very easy to use.

I'm sure that the playlist creator you've pointed folks to works great as well. I just like having all the steps tied up into one process (i.e. format conversion, copying, organizing, artwork creation, playlist creation, etc., etc.).

You are right though... If someone doesn't want to use iTunes (lots of folks hate iTunes), then SyncMyPortable's no good for them at all.

Thanks for your comments.

If these solutions work for you, that's great. Otherwise, there's a teeny tiny freeware program by FreEPOC that allows you to right-click on any music track in Windows Explorer and automatically create a playlist of all the music files in the same folder. And the playlist has the correct format for M600, P990i, P1i etc. Available from the URL below.

Best regards,
