Guys,
do you use the default settings for encoding for P990 ? or what are the optimum settings?

I use 420kbps for video and 64kbps for audio. With that a DVD movie usually finish with 350-370 mb splited in two parts with superb quality.

Feedback on the bitrate settings for UIQ3 phones is very welcome.

I only have my free time to work on M3, so i can choose to test lots of clips or work on adding new features. I go with the latter, hehe.

The current 650 bitrate is simply the result of me spending 20 minutes with a really severe video i use to test image quality with. It causes artifacts and pixelation long before most videos, and that's how i got to 650kbps as the default.

Let me know what works for you, or even better, create a new device profile (using the profile editor on the Misc page in m3).

Mysh: genius.

That program is amazing, and it solves the slow loading issue. I love it!

One small problem, I can't select HE-AACv2.

Thanks for the pointer to using mp4creator to avoid delays in starting videos. It does indeed work, for example on video files converted using Quicktime Pro which otherwise do have a delay when played on my P990. But using mp4creator to create hint tracks isn't the only thing that avoids the delay. I've been using Mpegable X4 for a while, and it doesn't create hint tracks but it also doesn't cause any delay. So there must be something else going on. I'll try to figure out what it is. It would speed up M3 when working with large files if we can figure out an alternative to the mp4creator 'hack'.

Best regards,
Malcolm

I don't think the P990 supports heaac-v2, so it's disabled for the P990 profile.

there's a PDF on the SE developer site describing the supported codecs for each phone:

http://developer.sonyericsson.com/getDocument.do?docId=84942

Malbry:

That's interesting about mpegable not creating hint tracks but also not suffering from the delayed opening bug. It's possible that the problem is more related to the A/V track interleaving in the container. Telling mp4creator to make it ISMA compatible hint tracks and remux the file could be altering the interleave somehow. I really don't know enough about the finer details of mp4 containers to say whether that's the case though.

Does this only benefit UIQ3 users? - from the looks of it it could be useful to all video encoders... Thinking specifically of using for a P905 or PSP

Cheers

arvinlad it supports a number of SE phones, and you can add new phones/devices (eg. nokias, ipods, PSP) using the profile editor.

version 0.89.6

added: add recorded TV function (media center or mpeg)
added: DVRMSToolbox commercial-break removal support
added: don't overwrite existing files option, renames old file with creation-timestamp
added: append profile name to converted videos
added: encode only specific segment from video
added: manual delay option for DVD audio streams (tom)
added: frame blending is back in M3, gives smoother playback
added: new video info debug method
added: donation link, finally!

fixed: audio sync loss on dvr-ms files
fixed: crash on split h264 movies using UIQ3 profiles
fixed: semi-decrypted DVDs never prompted fairuse agreement
fixed: text-subs sometimes got lost
fixed: a per-file option that i can't specify in this changelog
fixed: nasty error maintaining aspect ratio on files with < 1.33 PAR
fixed: temporary fix for 176x99 bug with 352x240 source
fixed: missing video info in lastrun.log

changed: setting per-file options is much simpler to do now, just click the file
changed: credits music, chase those crazy baldheads out of town!

open bug: broken display-aspect-ratio (DAR) detection for mpeg/dvr-ms files, fix coming soon
open-bug: encode segment option does not work properly on most avi and mpeg files or DVDs, no seconds option yet
