If you are urgently looking for the ultimate phone then don't wait and buy the p990 + 4gb pro duo, if you are in no rush then wait for the n95.

Well I considering I have M600i already I would call P990 an "investment", more like just an added convenience of the camera. If M600i had a camera I really wouldnt worry as much - I dont need wi-fi.
However the GPS really interests me, since I use street maps for walking cities and I travel a lot to different places, so that is a huge attraction in the N95.
I may see if I can find a used P990i perhaps.
By the way, where is best place to get the 2GB of 4GB card? |

I'm actually waiting for the replacement of the p990i, and I don't mean an upgrade as in p900i to p910I. I know I may have to wait a while but I'm patient, my p910i is still good to me. I feel the n95 is the phone to get, not that I would buy a nokia. For once nokia came up with a great design and slightly smaller. Great features too! |

P910 is undoubtedly a great phone. I had one for a year and half. Reading all those negative comments about P990 I too was used to say that P910 is fine with me and that I will avoid this new P series. But fortunately I listened to some people on this forum who were satisfied with P990 and bought it. The difference I faced was amazing. It should be seen in order to understand. |

@koto- I hear you but I'm disappointed with what SE's done with the p series this time around. I mean, other than the 2mp camera, wifi and the fm radio what else does the p990 have to offer? I do love the design though even though the screen is slightly smaller than the p910.

I will get my P990 soon I hope as IMO it's fantastic and is getting fixed with updates.
You should ask yourself what form of input you want really as that's the main difference between the two, the touchscreen interface. I would also wait to read reviews on the N95's battery performance as we all know the N80 is aweful, especially once you start using it's features heavily.
If you can wait till next year then do so, you'll know weather the N95 is any good or not and you'll know the P990 will be working bug free by then as well. |

P990 is beyond my expectation, i have enjoyed a bug free usage of my phone & dont know what people are going on about when they say the p990 is troublesome.
Camera is superb, screen is wider but shorter than older p series, in use the difference is completely unoticable to p9 or p8 phones, the qwerty keyboard i thought i would hate i actually really like as a previous poster said, it means one handed input (i binned the flip imediately) the phone is not slow, wi fi is superb, backlight adjustment is a real eye saver, i was originally going to carry p990 arround with my old p9 (i have several sims) but old p9 feels so crap now that it stays at home,
I honestly think some p990 buyers couldnt quickly get their heads arround the fact that its a very different menu system to old p series & it takes quite a while to "Find" everything, even i was worried at first, but am now convinced its a way better phone in all ways but the two issues it "might" have;
1, Is my battery up to full performance yet, i'm not sure yet but it may be worse than old p9's or maybe its the hours of free wi fi hotspot usage i give it.
2, am i blind or is there no "&" symbol on the qwerty button keyboard ??

you should just buy the p990 and later sell it. the n95 doesn't come out till 2007.

Same omission on M600i - you have to pull up virtual keyboard to get it. That is one symbol that obviously deserves placement in any language, I'd say! |

@pachy, my P990's battery is doing wonderfully well, I managed 67 hours the other day!!
I switched the phone off & charged it for around 4 hours after an almost complete drain & changed my GRPS setting to CS only. I made a fair amount of calls, checked my mail a couple of times, didn't use bluetooth or wifi but even then it's really good. I could only manage 24 hours or so with the P910 with around the same usage.

@ adhussain,
How did you manage 67hours the other day as last time i checked there are only 24hrs in a day so 67hours is nearly 3days!

Well, thats why i'm not quickly condemiing the battery like so many others on here, i know from experience that these batteries need time to reach max performance & i find it hard to believe SE would put a crap battery in th phone, my old p900 is 3 yrs & 2 weeks old & still the battery is superb, i see no reason why similar qualities wont exist in my P990'ss battery.

@Pachy,
I think the problem is the P990i has both 3G and WiFi both known for there battery sapping prowess and of course bluetooth. As well as the fact that SE were meant to ship it with a more powrfull battery the BST-44 which mysteriously became a typo error when they shipped it with the BST-33 instead . Come back Ericsson all is forgiven dump Sony for your survival all the give you is a design ethos and marketing but IMO a definite drop in qaulity especially when it comes to launching prouducts that are not really ready for market IMHO.

@Dogmann, all said & done i much prefer my P990 to previous p series maybe it costing only £200 off ebay BNIB is a factor, but i feel like i have a better phone in my hand, that says alot to me.
If it was costing me £400 or even more over a contract, i may well have felt a biit ripped off after all its all about value for money isnt it.

@emso6
When I first look at P990 design on the Internet (2005) like many others l used to criticise SE for that. Now as I own P990 I admit that those people are really high in the field of design and functionality.
Here is why l consider P990 thousands miles above P910.
1.Camera (pictures and video)
2. Wifi-fantastic feature
3. fm radio
4. stereo bluetooth
5. usb mass storage (great thing)
6. amazing screen (have to see that-for e.g. superb movie experience)
7. landscape browsing (real pleasure-peoples comments are-hey that's real internet)
8. Fully functional multimedia downloading (I listen music while downloading 50-100MB multimedia file and writting a message to my friend)
9. editing 1MB+ office files in lendsape mode (not a toy any more specially excel)
10. RSS feeds - very cool tip
11. querty keyboard-very functional
12. possibility to use 4GB memory card
13. UIQ3-dont know for others but for me a great improvement-very surprising
14. other improvements in the form of business card scaner,slide show screen saver,birthday in contact,better mp3 player etc.
15. 3g, push e-mail which I don't use.
All in all uncomparable, 7 miles step forward.
