I own a W800i. This has been a wonderful phone so far. Thats when i got to hold the k800i and use it for some time. First impressions were: WOW!!. The screen is simply Amazing and clear even under the sun. My w800 seems to have lost all its charm in front of this amazing gadget. I then started to take pictures from both the phone's camera as i myself wanted to see the advancement in technlogy. Also my brother was considering in buying a new phone. I was all excited to see the new features of the camera. The Best pic was simply amazing. The sound quality seems to have been worse than my w800. But then i knew that they did that on purpose coz Sound quality is for Walkman phones. Anyways my main interest was the camera. On screen the pics were lookin sooo cool. The post-zoom function was fast. Overall the k800 seems to have won my heart. Althought the keypads were peeling off, the k800 was definetly my next purchase.
Then i happened to reach home and get those pictures onto the pc. i was expecting to see some really good pictures. I happened to make around 22 shots on both the phones. I tried to compare this in 11 different places.
But........... i was soooo dissapointed to see the poor quality in the k800 shots. I have uploaded the images for u to compare. All shots were taken in auto mode. Macro and flash was used whereever necessary. The pics on the w800 were at 2 MP and fine mode. The pics on the K800 were 3.2MP with fine mode.
I did not understand why but all the shots by the K800 were having a layer of white colour all over the picture. The daylight shots were all ruined and it was not sharp. On the other hand the w800 with modified camera driver 2.441 took some real shots. It was clear and depicted the true colors. The only place where the k800 was a winner was in the night shots. It had way lesser noise compared to the w800. The flash was very impressive but not with close shots. It tends to over-expose the subject.

I don't know why but, was i supposed to use manual setting for the k800? Or was it the firmware that was the problem. The phone had the R1CB001 firmware.
Please see for yourself and let me know whether to get this or the W810 and then get a better Cyber-shot phone later.
Thanks.

My advice is: stick with w800. I´ve played with k800 and although the screen is good the icons are more pixelated than on w800 and the menu is slower. The camera has more pixels but the quality is pretty much the same, even the video is the same, only night shots with flash will look better. The sound quality is worse, the headphones are worse, worst walkman software, no big mem card included. K800 might have a few software improvements but the sound quality, no walkman and higher price are real turn offs.
I´d stick with w800 at least until w800´s real successor shows up, i mean, a phone with the best cam and mp3 player around, the best of both worlds.Which can only be found today in nokias. |

@mervy - Which is which with the photos The sharper ones were taken with what . . . your K800 or W800 I am not totally surprised with this findings . . . some say that the 2 MP shots from the W8 and K750 are much better than those taken with the K800 Yup, the K800 OUTBEST the 2 MP fones (W800/K750i) in INDOOR/NIGHT shots . . .

Just notice the date stamp. The w800 is the red ones. The k800 is the green.

More reason for me not to change from my beloved W800i!! It has simply been the best phone I have ever had and I see no reason whatsoever to change it right now after over 1 year of ownership |

me too I'm sticking with my K750. I've played around with my officemate's K800 and while the screen is great, the larger form factor, different expansion slot, and lack of flashlight does not appeal to me. |

What ONLY amazes me with the K800 is that it has an auto-flash when taking images in dark areas (INDOORS) . . . I was also at awe seeing that RED light emitting when aiming at the object (focusing . . .). My K800l lasted only for 5 days with me, swapped it with a K618i (now sold too) and a K750 (both brand new) - same store . . . me just added - US$ 40.00 Items can be replaced (1 or 2 times only within a week and must be an UPGRADE, + on cash . . . no REFUNDS).

I was doubtful back then when I read a post saying that the images taken from the K750 WAS much . . . better than the one taken from the K800 . . . now, I am beginning to believe that !

Made me a believer. The K750/W800 are great phones and will not be beaten for a while. They will hang on just as the T610/630 did.

In the first place . . . the JUMP from a 2 MP to a 3.2 MP was not that HUGE so, we MUST not expect something so amazing here . . . had it been a JUMP from 2 MP to, say, 4 or 5 . . . MP . . now that's something to !

It seems to me that the exposure of your k800 is a bit high. Might be a factory defect but you can try adjusting exposure by moving the joystick 1-2 times to the left and then comapring the photos. You really shouldn't have to do that, but it's a quick fix. Also the k800 gives you a lot more flexibility with the different settings - I vary which type I'm using constantly - between the full auto, landscape and portrait primarily and then document for close up macros. Overall my impression is that my k790 is much Much better at taking pictures than my k750 and w810.
