I have tried to get the Sky By Mobile app working on my P990 and could not get it to load.

Sounds like a daft question but do I load the .jar file onto my P990 and run it? or how do I get the 'withtv.jar' version to install and run.

I have the app installed on my K800 but it keeps saying it cannot connect - even although I am registered

Both apps freeze my phone after I have entereed a user name. I can only recover the phone by removing the battery. Guess Java is not as x platform as its cracked up to be.

I really wanted to record my Sky+ from my mobile.

the java app works perfectly fine for me - i'm on R9 firmware

If you read this thread from the start - you have to put the password in first, then the username otherwise it does lock up.

also - make sure your midlet permissions are set to GPRS or WiFI - i don't think skybymobile likes the 'system preferred' option

hope this helps

@macasp

Thanks for the password first pointer.

I have looked at the MIDlet permissions for SBM and there is nothing in the permissions that let me set GPRS or WiFi. I have managed to set the the MIDlet account up to have GPRS in it and not the 'system preferred'. I have tried changing many things but still get the following error 'the data connection has failed, please check network coverage'. I have bot GPRS and 3G at the moment.

What am I doing wrong?

@macjasp

I have managed to get connected by setting the MIDlet account setting to contract WAP which is one of the preinstalled Vodafone settings in my phone.

Now to try connecting to my Sky+

Thanks for your help

@peterwwood
let us know if you can access the video clips or TV programs, seeing as you have a Vodafone contract.

I can access all the Sky+ stuff which is great. However when I try to get a TV clip I get asked to set up a subscription. I thought I would have been able to access the service directly throough my own Sky subscription. Obviously Vodafone benfit as they get the network charges.

I will try it again later today or tomorrow.

A new version of this is now available. the new version tries to download automatically, however, it fails with the message "not available for this handset".

It did the same to me - not very user friendly. If you have SE then try this directory. You can download the file for there. I have just done it. Not sure what is new ion this release?

Hi Guys,

I've moved onto a P1 now and have been using Sky by Mobile from my P990 without any problems. However, since updating my phone to the latest firmware last month, the Sky by Mobile app no longer works. When I try to log in it just says I am using an unrecognised version of Sky Anytime. Does anyone else have this problem?

sky by mobile has been updated, click on the original link for the app near the beginning of this thread. You'll then download the lastest version.

looks like the v5 sky app no longer works with latest version of p1 firmware which is a real pain in the arse unless someone has definitive instructions to get it working?

When I first had the problem I tried updating but it didn't help. I hope you technical guys out there can work out how to get it all working again with the latest P1 firmware.
