I'm in Singapore for the next few days and although I have passed through the airport countless times in the last few years I am struck by how expensive down town is since I last spent time here.

we had a jug of tiger beer (about 4 glasses - 2 pints), a coke and an ice cream and it came to just about 60 singapore dollars which is about £25

any Sinagporeans, or anyone visited here recently, care to comment on this or have I been in UK too long? ok, it was along orchard road but nothing special and there was lots of locals there too

just curious and it struck us as a big change from last time

Orchard road is a tourist spot and sad to say the beers/drinks there are sort of premium. You are paying for the ambiance actually. If you want cheap drinks, go to "Kopitiam", they are situated somewhere near orchard road. Or ask a local where to hang out where drinks are cheaper. Geylang area is a place I think you can have some drinks and something else.
