HBH-660 Battery replacement |

I have owned my HBH-660 for about 2 years now, and it has been an excellent piece of hardware. I used it on my K700 and now on my k750i. Recently, the batteries decided to lose charge quickly, and they last half as long as previously. This has obvious reasons: Rechargeables have certain life cycles built in, from then on, its time for change. So. My adventure began trying to figure out if the SE website offered any info about replacing. All I could find is that they do not replace batteries. Once batteries are out, you pretty much have to dish out the $99 again and throw the whole thing (except of course, the ear hook) So being basically adept at electronics, I opened the device and found two GP industrial type nimh batteries. The code on them is: GP18AAAAH2B and so I googled for about an hour and bumped into the site for GP where they offer products to large companies who need to buy bulk batteries. I have tried searching on Ebay, etc. and could not find any. I tried thebattery replacement stores online, and nothing. Anyone has a clue as to where I could find these GP18AAAAH2B batteries, or at least the GP18AAAAH that is listed on GP's site? I'm pretty sure these batteries are available somewhere. And changing them is just a matter of a soldering iron and some tin. The headset could probalby chug out 5 more years of life. And it is by far, the best option when it comes to simplicity, practicality and comfort. Not to mention the new-battery capacity for talk time!

hi my friend, welcome to esato there is a similiar post about a year ago on the hbh-series battery replacement a poster here on esato found me the batteries that you are looking for. ( for the hbh-200) for more information visit this link: http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=100469#post1375060 and if you contact him maby he can do the same for you. but the issue remains for me as i have 4 hbh-660 and another 4 hbh-662 and i bought them off ebay brand new and the price for each one was about 40 euro each ( an outstanding price because on a retail shop they were priced for 120 euro each) is it worth it? to change the batteries? or look for a brand new one on e-bay? and something else how the heck did you open it? can you post a few pictures?

Mathios, thanks for the post, it helped  You are also in luck! I was searching around further after my post and eventually managed to call GP Industries USA. They led me to a dealer in San Diego, California which sells the odd sized batteries from GP such as the GP18AAAAH like the ones installed in the HBH-660.

I was looking for other type of batteries with the three minimum characteristics: 1.2v, NiMh and 180mah each. Unfortunately here in Guatemala I could find none similar, so I definitely was excied to find this dealer in San Diego that sold the same model batteries. I placed an order for a 5 pack, it cost me $20 including shipping and handling. I do belive that this is way cheaper than buying used/new headsets on Ebay, since each battery would cost $4, or $8 per headset replacement. If you have several headsets, the same 40 EURO ($50) that buys you a new single headset, can give new extended life to at least 6 headsets. This is economically justifiable. One can certainly use ANY other battery that fits in the compartment, that has 1.2v per cell, 180 mah or MORE in capacity, and that is NiMh. All one has to do is to assemble a 2 cell pack in series and solder the power wires accordingly.
OPENING the HBH-660, After many uses, it seems the case kind of "loosens" up. So I just pulled slighlty hard on it and it came open. I then pressed one of those one way tabs on the back, near the earpiece, and voila. I don't have pictures of the process but can take some new ones to send you when I replace the batteries. In the end, you can always add a drop or two of cyanoacrilate or any plastics glue to the seams after closing, which would hold it in place until the next battery change.

thank you very much for the information, I know the process of changing the batteries on the headsets, the only thing that troubles me was the hbh-660 , i can't seem to figure out how to open it because trying might damage the headset,therefore the customers might complain. there are no skrews on it and as of that i did not try. i work in a phone shop part time and we have many customers that come in and complain about the hbh-series headsets but due to the lack of knoledge on the specific headset we turn them down, on the other hand the hbh-200 was easy to open it has 2 skrews on the back an was very easy to dismantle, and remove the batteries. i have contacted the link you gave me for the batteries and i hope they respond to me so that i can place an order for about 20 batteries. but do me a favor post a few pictures here so that i can understand the process of opening a hbh-660, it would help me a lot and so that other posters and readers here on esato can learn from your experience and we could make esato a better place to learn!

Hi alphaorian/ mothios I also using HBH 660 head phone and searching batteries for this. I have went thru the site that you mention "BatteryConnection" but still i could not find "GP 18AAAAH2B" battery. I would appreciate it very much that if you help me to buy 2 baterries of this model. it will very much use for me.

Hi Yogalohi, Just contact them via telephone to purchase. They don't carry the 18AAAAH2B But they carry the 18AAAAH battery, which is the exact same battery as installed on the bluetooth headset. My headset is working excellent ever since the bttery replacement! It is truly worth the effort! |

Hi all,
If anyone is interested, I just got a few of those batteries from http://www.battex.cz/
Problem is now, I cant really seem to be able to open up the headset. Any tips on doing that?
