windows mobile, more stable, more software, more free software, doesn't need digital signing (uiq3) if you know how to program you can integrate the software with ALL the phone functions / other programs,
the bad if you're a noob some programs might conflict and give you bugs but if you now what you're doing you should be alright, even if you do get a problem you can't solve just do a search as they have all been experienced before.
my gazillion cents

win mobile has easier connection to windows domains and PC or Notebook. But is relatively less stable and its application are generally larger in size.
symbian used to be more stable but not the current P990i. |

Windows mobile is a disgrace. Totally unacceptable for phone use and somewhat poor for PDA use. Unstable, buggy and just plain flawed both in conception and execution.
It was my misfortune to use an iMate JAM (WM03) and then an O2 Exec (WM05). Just like Windows, there seems no progress where it matters - the OS is fundamentally flawed.
The M600i is a delight to use. Yes, we need software - but that wasn't the question. |

I had an O2 XDA Exec for about 6 months till I got rid of it - unacceptably slow, and p*** poor battery life (not even a single day), sound quality and phone part was also atrocious...
In 2001 I had an IPAQ, in 2006 an XDA - I bet it'll be more than 5 years before I venture back into windowsland for my pocket... |

After the end of the day when I log off my computer, the last thing I need is another windows based computer in my hand. So I prefer Symbian. More fun to me.

the tytn has changed my opinion of wm5, aside from the bluetooth stack (silly microsoft) it works like a dream, fast/stable and I'm loving the integrated office, Microsoft voice command is a dream to use strangley wm5 is more stable than my desktop xp
besides you can easily customize it to look totally different colors/backgrounds/icons/ shortcuts/ groups/ task bars /tray bars..etc hell you can even remove everything and just put some icons and make it look like a symbian phone something you can't do with symbian yet...

through personal experience i found the windows to be more a PDA then a phone while Symbian is more of a phone then a PDA. |

I have both: an iMate Jamin (Qtek 200) with WM5, P990i with UIQ3 and Nokia E70 with Symbian S60. I can resume my opinion in a few words: Windows Mobile is better to be used as PDA, and Symbian is better when used as phone. So, if that you need is a good calendar, a good contacts manager and the possibility of playing with your Word, Xcel... etc., and the use of the phone is less important your election has to be WM, but if that you want is an extensive use of the phone your best election is Symbian. |

from all of above i prefer uiq 3.0 trust me its killer iv used windows mobile and i use to rate better than uiq 2.1 but it can never match uiq 3.0
T200 -> T68i -> T610 -> K700i -> P910i -> W800i -> P990i -> M600i -> P1-> Nokia E71 -> X1i -> X10 -> Arc S -> Sony Z1 -> Sony Z Ultra -> Sony Z3+ -> iPhone 6 -> iPhone 7 Plus -> iPhone X -> iPhone XS Max |

"windows to be more a PDA then a phone while Symbian is more of a phone then a PDA"
I really find this statment weird, what exactly is a pda/phone phone/pda, if you want a smartphone wouldn't you want it to be able do more things ? that's the whole smart vs. dumb phone thing, how smart does a phone have to be to be considered a smartphone ?
Alot of people say using wm5 smart phone is harder than a normal phone I find that is not true, to dial all i have to do is press the call button and the contacts popup, choose the contact and call just like a phone,
too hard ? geta MS voice command, all you have to do is assign a button press the button and say call 'name' and it will call a contact (you don't even need to teach it /add tags to contacts it works out of the box), use his nickname and it will call him too, you can have it to confirm or not but I see it get's it right 99% of the time, does the contact have more than 1 phone ?
just say call 'name' mobile or call name home it will call that number, even if you just say his name it will ask you what line to call,
want to know the time, say what time is it and it will tell you , same for date, want to know your missed calls ? ask it what calls have I missed and it'll say them as well as time of call/ what number, same goes for messages email it can even read them out to you.
want to listen to music ? say play 'artist name' or 'genre' or album, or play all it will start playing it, you can even tell it to skip tracks/ go to previous increase volume ..etc
want to know your calendar appointments, just say what appointments do I have today, or tomorrow ..etc it will read them out for you.
all this by clicking one button.
want to send an email or mms ? just choose the contact and choose what you want to send, emails support attachments from any folder and of any type.
want to cut down on long distance calls ? skype works like a dream on the new phones.
messengers all work and msn messenger and hotmail comes integrated.
these are just a few things to list, and you can multitask a lot of your programs without performance issues, I usually listen to mp3' while surfing the web and have word open as well as my today plugins/ other running programs with no performance issues.
I hate microsoft but if they can get their desktop as stable and efficient as the mobile phone they can change their stupid image.
Give me one uiq or s60/70/90 phone that can do half of that and I'm game.
