Alright, so despite everyone's bad experiences, I decided to give it a shot. And by following the instructions at the site phonekoto posted, I can let out a sigh of relief and say everything went smoothly.
Anyone else who may be looking to do this, I strongly recommend that you follow the guide that phonekoto linked to (a few posts up). This takes out the guess-work of which 3xx and 4xx byte files to replace. The author gives you the first 12 and 11 bytes of each file in hex so that you can know with more confidence which files to replace.
But as always, proceed with extreme caution... |

SO HAPPY! got it back from service and they had forgot to brand it back to a 3 phone. My lucky day! Now World Generic 1 YES!

I used these files for my P990i, so I don't think they're for an M600i... at least, I wouldn't try unless you had an easily accessible way to fix your M600i if something went wrong?
I can't confirm whether or not you can use the same files for both the P990i and the M600i.
If you want Chinese support, perhaps you could try the Generic China or the Singapore CDA files for the M600i here:

Just to says I just unbranded my Orange UK M600i and it worked perfectly ! cool stuff, no more fugly large crap buttons and transitions! |

I have also managed to debrand my Vodafone W950i to Generic World 1
It takes a bit of time as you need 3 updates but it certainly works
point to note is the 310+ bytes and 410+ bytes files should start with similar numbering as there are 2 similar size files...so just replace the PAIR with similar numbers

Very dangerous to play guessing games in this situation, and you may have a few 3++ bytes & 4++ bytes versions especially if you've been using the same computer to update your fw a considerable amount of times before. How do you know which ones to choose for sure? Just look at the dates they were modified ie. the day you're doing the update ie. the most currently dated. You can't go wrong with simple logic |

if you really want to be safe, simple reinstall the update service before doing this.. And in my case there were only two files that were with similar file name and the file sizes (3XXb and 4XXb) so there was no risk of doing the wrong files..

Did it again whit my girlfriends p990, found out that i did take the wrong file for the bigger one "450b" when i did my own 1 month ago. Followed the steps from Bayan this time and worked almost flawless, the last upgrade hangedup 2 times but i didnīt start the phone betwen 2 and 3 upgrade. Just removed battery and replaced it again and upgraded to 1generic. I think iīm more happy over this than my girlfriend, ha ha! She shold have taken mine while hers was at service if it didnt work.
