Here are my wishes for future firmware/software updates, in order of priority. Please add yours.

* Higher receiver volume during phone calls -- The K790i sounds clearer than my T637, but I have to switch to the T637 to talk to my low-spoken girlfriend. If there is any noise in the environment then it can seem like the phone receiver has shut off.

* Slower battery drain when taking pictures -- currently, my Canon S400 can take 100 pictures on a single charge, whereas the K790i can't handle more than 30 or so, IIRC. This was a huge disappointment to me because I bought the phone with the intention of totally replacing the S400.

* Better overall battery life.

* Faster keypress response times (I usually press "* Unlock" faster than the phone can sense it).

* When using the web browser, I want to be able to select a phone number off a web page and dial it. (Currently, if you look up a phone number on a web page, and then try to dial it, the phone-number entry box covers the entire web page so you can't read the number off of it).

* Enable me to download firmware updates using SEUS in English/US even though my phone is imported from China.

* Enable 850 Mhz band (if it is disabled by firmware only, of course)

* Get rid of seperate "Transfer Mode" and "Phone Mode" so that I can do USB file transfers while all phone features enabled (camera and sond/video playback can remain disabled if necessary).

* Support for 2GB/4GB Memory Stick Micro M2

Bonus features:

* Manual camera controls
* Japanese input method, with support for Hiragana and Katakana.
* British English learning software so that I can call a flashlight a "torch" in everyday conversation and spell every word with at least one extra "u."

I think it already has support for M2 cards over 4GB, it's just that there are none that big. Sony is/has released a 2GB version now though.

As mentioned it does support bigger memory cards. Bigger cards will be available soon.
The battery on my K800i is great. I took over 100 photos a few days a go, made a few calls and about 1 hour of wap and didnt even use half my battery.

Thanks for correcting me guys.

You are right about the battery drain--if I don't use the flash then I can take a lot of pictures.

Where did you hear about M2 cards bigger than 1GB? Has anybody tested it out? The spec sheet on the SE developer site says "up to 1GB:" http://developer.sonyericsson[....]s/phonegallery/k790/p_k790.jsp

on the link u gave, it says "Memory Stick Micro™ removable storage (up to 1G available)" and this page probably was prepared when there were no micro cards with bigger capacity than 1GB.

so that "up to 1GB" refers to the availability of maximum storage capacity for the micro cards on the market, not the phone itself.

I heard about 2GB M2 from a store in Sweden that I have ordered a 1GB from. Too bad Sony can't deliver any cards, they are now nowhere to be found in Sweden (if you don't want to pay double price).

I can't recreate this. I've tried unlocking with two fingers, nearly pressing the buttons at the same time and it still detects it just fine.

Ive found that on my unit as well but i think its due to the fact that i have a matrix animated theme, havent tried it with a standard theme though yet to see if its slow-ish. I also find with the animated themes that the menu system kinda slows down...anyone else find this??

I dont have the unlocking problem, the phone detects the key presses no matter how fast i press them.

I also noticed the animated wallpapers do slow down compared to the speed they are played when viewing the images in saw the filebrowser.

my major "want" is to be able to do what the P990 can do and that is to stream the radio to a BT stereo headset... can't be that hard!

i dunno if all these can be done by a firmware upgrade but what i want from SE are:

1) better video quality

2) proper live (MSN) messenger support

3) may be some kind of built-in text & pdf reader...

My wishlist:

* Better shutter time / exposure / focus controls (manual focus!)
Currently I have to mess with combinations of Twilight Landscape, Twilight Portrait and such which appear to change settings that aren't configurable manually.

* Improved macro focus, improved auto white balance
Macro focus can only focus on objects at least 10cm away, while I can clearly see the lense focusing correctly on closer objects during autofocusing, it 'gives up' and instead focuses on the background. Also any remotely cloudy photo becomes bluish (so I have to use the manual setting) whereas all other types of lighting are correctly compensated for.

* PhotoDJ being able to resize images and configure output JPEG quality
When bluetoothing photos to less "endowed" phones like the LG KG800 Chocolate which can't display anything over 1MP, being able to resize a 3MP photo to 1MP or even VGA for a quick tooth would be very handy.

* QVGA video support
Come on people, this is a cameraphone, and my videos look no better than those of a bloody K750. If the display is 320x240 (in landscape), my 3GP videos can be 320x240 as well.

* Consistent photo viewer
When I have just taken a photo, I can only look at it, and not zoom in or do anything else. I have to press the back button, and press View to open the latest photo in a viewer that supports zooming. But if I want to bluetooth this photo to a friend, I have to go out of Cyber-shot mode and look up the photo in the file manager, because that viewer has a "Send->Via Bluetooth" option in the menu, which the menu in the Cyber-shot viewer lacks.

* Non-crippled acoustics on the MP3 player
Sure, this isn't a walkman phone, but that's no reason to take away all the dynamics when playing music. SE seem to have added a huge dynamic compression filter which turns up all quiet passages and turns down all loud passages, and also appears to limit the loud passages to some kind of "safe-for-ears" volume. The FM radio doesn't suffer from this problem, and has a clear and loud sound, so it's clearly firmware-imposed.

* Real multi-tasking
I can listen to MP3s while playing Java games (provided they're not sucking up all the CPU with fancy 3D graphics), I can view a received SMS message while browsing and return to my browser after reading... Cool! But I can't do anything while receiving a file over bluetooth, *UNLESS* I started that activity before I was offered the file.
Situation A: I am writing an SMS message. I get offered a file via bluetooth. I accept. I open the task manager, select Compose and press Resume. Neat!
Situation B: I am in standby. I get offered a file via bluetooth. I accept. I want to write an SMS message. I open the Shortcuts menu, and select Messaging. Without any notice or error message I am returned to standby where the bluetooth progress bar blocks any other activities. EH?!

* Configurable GUI font size
Even my old SE T230 could set the font size smaller. I have 240x320 worth of screen estate, and the large fonts are making all that space worthless. Only the email reader appears to have a configurable font size, and I love reading my emails in a small font.

* Better T9 word prioritising
In Dutch, many different words can be typed from the same numeric keystrokes. In situations where multiple options apply, the preset "preferred" word stays first in the list, even if it is a word I *never* use. It would be useful if it would sort the list based on my usage.

* T9 number entry
If I start typing "2" and then press "3" this makes "2e". I *would* expect T9 to realise I'm writing a number, and suggest 3 as the next character.

It does sort the T9 words based on your usage. I can tell mine does at least.
