Are the brightness buttons working?
Might be Fnc F6 or Fnc F7?

Its a settings and options menu when you restart your PC.
You may need to press F10, F2 or the DEL key.
In there you will find many options thats are to suit your needs.
It may have a brightness menu!
All the best.

not cheap then.

Try the Bios, if not leave the battery out for a few hours.

See what happens, if no joy then looks like you may need to pay

All the best.

isnt the screen illuminated by led's? Shouldnt it be relatively cheap to have them replaced?
@dr did the light go off when it was on or after a restart?

what country are you from? here in nz, the consumer gaurentees act allows for a reasonable amount of time (after the warranty) that the retailer is obliged to offer a repair or replacement. this time frame is determined by what is considered a "reasonable" amount of time for the good to live...you might have something like that available to you...

@san,jkeep ur fingers crossed.
@niru,the link i gave above is the repair thats needed.
@dumbrella,nope,nothing like that exists here.the vendors will go on a "silent celebration" when they hear that my warrenty expired 15 days back.

latest update:Talked to my reseller.as i mentioned in my post in SE India Reloaded,my laptop will be couriered to New Delhi for repair.Cost would be around Rs3000.
