Friends, I have gone through almost every forum that is there several times and I havent found the solution for this problem yet.
The hardware I use are SE J300i, generic dcu 11 (it says dcu 15 on the cover) data cable, an acer laptop with winxp home with sp2 and airtel mobile office.

I have setup the cable with a driver I found on the net, syncing and file transfer and everything works well with FMA. Installed the phone modem with the driver semj300 from the sony ericsson website. Made a new dialup connection using *99***1# as the dialup number. But when I dial it first says 'opening port'... then 'dialing'... and the phone screen shows 'connecting' then the computer just dies!!
Then I have to restart the system.

When I do modem query it says

First of all, welcome to Esato...

Have gone thru the query modem results and see that the APN is being shown as airtelmms.com? Iddeally this should be airtelgprs.com...

Anyway, i dont have much experience with connecting to gprs thru cable....can you confirm that the J300 supports this profile?

Try deleting the settings and install the setting for Mobile office first..so that it will be CDA 1..

Yes whiz is right. It doesn't look like mobile office settings are installed on ur phone. I too connect my J300i via Dcu 11 to my pc and everything works fine for me.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm sorry for posting the wrong modem query log. This was the one I got when I had temporarily deleted the mobile office settings. I re installed the settings and the modem query shows airtelgprs.com as #1 and airtelmms.com as #2. so its probably not a settings issue. The problem is still persisting.

These are the lines from the modem query I am worried about...

08-05-2006 14:38:37.765 - Opening the modem device failed with error 00000002

and ....

AT#CLS=? - COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
AT+GCI? - COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
AT+GCI=? - COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED

Now could this mean there's some problem with the data cable?

@jingboyx
Glad to know atleast one person on this forum is using a j300i to connect to the net. Do you use a generic dcu 11 or a genuine sony ericsson dcu 11. Could it be a hardware defect I am facing? Do all the generic dcu 11 cables support gprs. I have PC suite 1.7.10 (SE recommends that for j300i) and everything works normally with that except for the internet connection. Everytime i try dialling, the laptop screen just freezes and wont come unstuck even if you unplug the data cable. Then there's no way but to switch off the power and switch it back on!

The settings i have on my mobile are.... under internet profiles #1 is Mobile office and #2 is MMS
The Mobile Office settings are
Connect using:Mobile Office
Internet mode: WAP
IP address:202.056.231.117
Security: Off
username:
password:

Under data accounts, the mobile office account info shows
Name:Mobile office
External ID:1
APN: airtelgprs.com
username:
password:
password request:Off
Allow calls: Automatic
IP address: ...
DNS address: ...
Authentication:Normal
Data compression: On
Header compression: On

I have been working on this thing for one whole week and I am getting no where. I will try to post the present modem query log soon. Thanks again for all the replies.

And I forgot to mention that I have absolutely no issues accessing the net using the gprs on the phone.

I am using a chinese made dcu 11 which i bought for 250 bucks in chennai. It says DCU 11 on the box and it came with a cd. All i did was install the usb data cable driver, and the pc suite from the cd and then configured dial up connection. J300i modem drivers are all present in pc suite itself, but u gotta install it manually since add/new hardware wont autodetect. It seems like ur comp crashes coz of wrong modem drivers or due to com port conflict. If u have any bluetooth dongle installed, then try uninstalling it and then install ur usb data cable drivers again. Its better to use only the drivers that are on the cd.

I have done almost everything suggested in this forum and others and nothing seems to be working. I have come to the conclusion that its some sort of a hardware problem most likely a data cable issue. The funny thing is the cd that came with the cable didnot have a matching driver for the cable.
@jingboyx
My laptop doesnot have a bluetooth dongle installed. It has inbuilt bluetooth, IR , wirelesslan, IE1394 port and cardreader and all. I tried uninstalling all these. The problem doesnt seem to be a port conflict since I have no problem transferring files from the phone.
The ID of the cable I have is USBVID_6547&PID_0232. Could you just zip the driver file set you have and mail it to me?

Hello Hari..

I hope you are doing well..

I need your help so much! I have same problem when I wanted to connect internet from my pc, using my j300i! When I dial it first says 'opening port'... then 'dialing'... and the phone screen shows 'connecting' then the computer just dies!
Then I have to restart the system.

I am looking for a way to connect internet with my sony ericsson j300i.. But I haven't found yet.

Did you find a way to connect internet with your j300i? If yes, can you help me about it?

Please send me your e-mail to hkaracoban@gmail.com. I am using this e-mail address. I registered to esato with different e-mail adress.
