Bert I clicked on their link to see what the communication charges can be : I don't want to ruin myself in paying gprs connections. They say that the sw only connects when choosing an itinary... Once I get back home I'll download it and give it a try. If it's worthy then I may forget TomTom as I'm not always on the road.
You used it in South Africa and Cyprus : what about your phone bill ?
I see you're also in Belgium : is your provider Proximus like me or are you Mobistar or Base ?
Thanks,

Hi Mayacesar,
Yep, Proximus is my provider.
For the use of the GPRS roaming in SA I was charged for an amount of approx 15 euros ... I used the system for about 10 days.
You're right when ya say that NAV4all is perhaps not the cheapest solution for daily use. For me it is! At home it costs me only my monthly so called "internet" over GPRS/3G subscription (included in a fee of ±20 euros/month (+ a download of 20Mb)).
For daily use at home I myself prefer the NAV4all system for the time being. My subscription with Proximus covers everything; so in Belgium, I can use that kind of nav system at no extra costs.
Once 2008? Then, of course, I've to rethink a few things ...
Cheers

hi i bought my tt6 from ebay on cd-r and now l believe it wasn't the right version and thats the reason why i couldn't install it on my sony P990i . I think it was the one for smart phones other than the UIQ ones. Best go buy the dvd version then. |

Has anyone had a problem with their GPS disconnecting after a minute or 2 in TomTom?
I have a QStarz Bluetooth GPS that I just brought on eBay and TomTom can see it fine and it locks and gets satellites but after a while it will say "No GPS Deice!" in the GPS Status window and the signal and connection to the GPS will go.
My phone info is as follows:
Phone:
CXC 162037 R7A0011
BT:
CXC 162058 R4F01
Organiser:
CXC 162036 R3B01
I know it's quite old, it's an Orange branded phone which I hope to de-brand myself ASAP.
Is it possibly the firmware which is a bit crappy with Bluetooth devices?? |

jonathan488, I have 1 of those units, I am sending it back for a refund. It appears to use a different chipset to TomTom's own brand reciever which I'm guessing is what is causing the problems as the reciever works fine with non-tomtom GPS software. I have a reciever on order which uses the same Sirf Star 3 chipset that is found in the tomtom recievers when it arrives I'll see if it fixes the problem and I'llupdate the thread with any relevant info. |

Thanks atomicpineapple, let us know what you find!
Interestingly I've found it does work with some GPS software on my Mac which is very strange.
you say it's possibly an incompatibility with TomTom? Can I ask which receiver you've gone for now? |

Make sure you're using the right map. Once you've generated your key, copy the map (.mid?) back over to your memory card (from C:\\keygen) and try activating again. |

I went for this unit here
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBay[....]m=&item=160086352546&rd=1&rd=1
as it uses the same chipset as tomtoms's own brand reciever. I'll know if it works or not by tomorrow night. |

jonathan488, Orange P990 on R7 is NOT noted for bluetooth probs, i have same as you & tomtom works perfectly with surfstar or Holox bt321 (they look almost identical, but Holox can be got of ebay for £30
it must be your GPS unit.

Thanks for the info pachy. I am gonig to send the GPS back today hopefully for a full refund.
I now have a debranded phone which is fully up to date so I can also confirm it is not a firmware problem as you say. |

The bluetooth problems with GPS aren't TomTom's fault but the phone. Trying using the GPS unit with other software (eg Nav4All) and you'll see.
Not exactly sure what the problem was, but I upgraded to a SirfIII chipset and don't regret it. The coverage is soooo much better. |

hi thanx for the help finally got tomtom 6 working on my p990i now just waiting for GPS bought on Ebay |

Well in a way the problems are TomToms fault as the other 2 GPS recievers I have tried (using Nemerix and MTK chipsets) work flawlessly with everything expect TomTom. But then TomTom only expect their software to work with their own brand reciever, so we're asking it to do something its not meant to. Anyway I have my new reciever using the Sirf Star 3 chipset and while disconnects still occur they are for a fraction of a second and so will have no effect on navigation, much better than the 30 ish seconds I'd have to wait with my other recievers, easily enough time to miss a turning in a busy urban area. |
