I cant remember which firmware my P990 had before I sent it to be updated, however I know there is a newer version of the Bluetooth firmware out there than is on my phone.

It looks like your GPS reciever has a different companys chipset to mine so that may explai nwhy some peopel experience problems yet you do not.

My GPS device is some Chinese thing, "iBlue" I think - no idea what chipset it is or anything, but it does claim to have a really long battery life thanks to "intelligent power saving feature". This might be the root of the trouble.

Piccy below.

Buying a new one (I hear SirfStar is the one to get?) is an option I'm seriously considering.

Hi there,

Just one question : how or where do you see the version 6.020 of the TomTom 6 ? Try to find the mention on the boxes but I don't see it nowhere, and I don't want to throw my money away.

Or should I just buy any TomTom navigator 6 DVD and it will work with my P990 ?

Thanks,

Just get TT6 and that is it. It goes for UIQ3.

Gridlock, your GPS appears to have a Nemerix chipset in it, the same company that manufactured the chip in a BT-R700 I tested, a company called MTK makes the chip in my BT-Q810, which is also troublesome.

Do you really mean that any version of TT6 works on P990's ? What about what has been written here that only version 6.020 is supported by the device ? Wasn't it true ?

I think you have to put all the files and directorys in the "tomtom 6.02 Windows 2003SE"-directory directly to the root of your memory-card. Then the phone will ask you if you want to install when you disconnect the USB.

It makes a mess in the root, but that's the way tomtom made it.. hm...

I've read all the messages of this thread and still nobody to reply to my question : how or where to see the version 6.020 before purchasing TT6 ?

People say TT6 on DVD is the one which works with P990, but how come some can't install it ?

Please answer as I've already got my GPS receiver.
The copy of TT6 I bought on ebay didn't fit with the phone, it was one for PDA's. Now I want to buy a genuine one but just don't know how to make the good choice.

Thanks,

If you buy a "legit" retail copy of TomTom Navigator v6 on DVD then it will inculde the UIQ3 version of TomTom that you can install on your phone (I'd stay away from anything you find on eBay!). The UIQ3 version of TomTom is confirmed by many to work on ALL of the SE UIQ3 based smartphones (i.e. M600, P990, and W950).

The ONLY version of TomTom v6 for use with the UIQ3 OS is indeed version 6.020. Thus, you don't need to worry about the version you are getting since it is the ONLY one currently available when you buy a TomTom v6 DVD. When you buy the DVD, it also includes a copy of the TomTom Home application that installs on your PC and then walks you through installing the proper version of TomTom onto your phone as is fully explained here:

http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?Language=4&FID=6636

It's a very simply process and so there's no need for you to get all worked up about it all. Just go buy a "legit" DVD version of TomTom v6 and you'll have all you need.

BTW, even if you happend to receive an older version of the TomTom v6 for UIQ3 app (which you can't at this point since there's only the original released v6.020 available), the TomTom Home application would indicate this and then allow you to update to the latest version.

I installed v7.0 from http://www.nav4all.com
It's free n'till 2008 and ... it works like charm!!
Recently I used it in South-Africa and Cyprus.
Have ya ever tried to find a navigation system + maps for both countries ... I did, and the result was nada ... there was only 1 solution left: NAV4all is the name
All ya need is a bluetooth GPS reciever.
I love it.
Enjoy.
Cheers

Bert I clicked on their link to see what the communication charges can be : I don't want to ruin myself in paying gprs connections. They say that the sw only connects when choosing an itinary... Once I get back home I'll download it and give it a try. If it's worthy then I may forget TomTom as I'm not always on the road.

You used it in South Africa and Cyprus : what about your phone bill ?

I see you're also in Belgium : is your provider Proximus like me or are you Mobistar or Base ?

Thanks,
