Here is a comparison betwean a Sim Free Handset and a Three Branded Handset.

Sim Free on the left of the pictures.

The three handset has a different main screen, with the addition of Instant viewer (can be switched off) Planet3 replaces menu button, on the keypad you have a music player button instead of a browser button, and the usual 3 logo covering the cybershot logo

All icons have been changed and it apears that they are default regardless of theme

3's Handset has the update service menu removed so you are unable to schedule updates

Instant view is available on the three handset and can be disabled

Music Player has been replaced by three Player, the three player takes you direct to 3's internet page for music downloads. The origonal music play is still available from the entertainment menu

The internet menu icon has been replaced by quick menu, this takes you direct to 3's internet

The Play now Menu icon has been replaced by the Planet 3 to give access to 3's internet page, thats 3 different shortcuts to the same place.

One additional game on the three handset is World Poker

Service Menu, available by > * < < * < * sequence where < and > are joystick movements in that direction

Only changes that can be made are USB charging on/off

Software Info & Customisation Comaparison

Now this is a bit odd handset on the left is simm free the three handset showes the same simlock, so i tried a voda sim in the 3 version and it didnt work, but worked fine in the sim free version.

So quiet a few changes between the two handsets, also all the MMS and WAP profiles are locked and cant be edited on the three version

Well at least the braning is better than Vodafone's branding.

You are joking?

I actually prefer the Voda branded icons over the standard SE ones (btw the 3 ones look crap).

I also prefer the way Voda has reorganised the menu and put things in their proper places (since when has Remote Control been Entertainment? It should be in with the Apps!)

Yeah so they've simlocked it, no bother for me has I'm happy with my Voda contract. The only think I don't prefer is the Voda "sticker" where CyberShot should be.

As it stands I debrnaded my K750 with Davinci, I could do it with my K800 as of now, but I won't as I prefer it!

I hate branding. Especially vodafone, as they totally redesign everything and disable functions.

Why, what have they disabled (apart from the OTA Update)?

To BAH434X or to anyone that knows the answer

In the first photo, you pointed the differences between the generic version and 3's version, for the 3 handset, the little round world icon located at the top, can that icon be switched off? if not does that mean it would drain the battery even more?

Another silly question which i'm not clear on:

i know UMTS reception uses more battery then GSM mode, is there a function that allows me to just use GSM reception and NOT UMTS in order to save battery?

p.s i have the white sony ericsson k610i many thanks!
