We have heard/tried super! but to be frank, it doesn't hold a candle to M3. it's so much better, and to be frank, outputs better quality video than anything ive ever used. |

I can now confirm M3 works just fine in Vista. Didn't try it earlier as I didn't have any need to convert anything.
Mysh: My original problem is still there in the latest version though. No it says it can't decode the file though, even though there should be no problem. Only when using "maintain aspect ratio" on the file I sent you before. Just wanted to let you know. |

Now I get a very strange problem. Whenever I start M3 v0.898 it crashes after about 1 second. At first I thought it was a vista problem so I installed it on my laptop running XP. The exact same thing happened there. This really puzzels me as I have used it once recently to convert a south park episode with no trouble what so ever. Now I can't do anything. |

I'm starting to wonder if M3 is no more!?
No sign of Mysh, the program has stops working as soon as it's run (even after a clean install) plus the all the download links are suspended even old links!
Apart from Blunden and myself is anyone else now having problems running M3 version 0.898 after this date 25-3-07 (I'm even starting to wonder if a date termination code has been written into the program??)
Or maybe with the links being suspended he's been offered a commercial venture for the M3 software?
Interested to hear other peoples findings.
Hope this helps! Cheers, Dcuk |

Same thing here - after starting M3 (which tries to load the quicktime page as I haven't got that codec) it crashes out. This is on XP and there was no problems before.
BUT out of curiosity I disconnected from the internet and tried M3 again. It worked fine. So it looks like its someting to do with M3 crashing as it can't find Mysh's site??

Well done you're right!
Problem is using Windows firewall to block M3 doesn't work as the program still crashes!
(Windows firewall is the only real option on Vista at the moment untill zonealarm free version is ready!)
switching off router or disconecting from the Net does allow M3 to run.
Hope this helps! Cheers, Dcuk |

Strange indeed. At least now we have a workaround. Kind of an interesting bug though as you seldom see an app that is dependant on the internet when it is conected but runs just fine without it. |

I'm guessing it's caused by the auto update feature!
As you start the M3 program it checks for a net connection,
if it senses one, it will try and run the auto updater
(which is why the program is crashing as the website to bounce the information back again no longer exists)
Hope this helps! Cheers, Dcuk |

If M3 is crashing when you open it, you can either:
a) block any connections it attempts to make with your firewall (if you have one) or
b) Add this line in your hosts file (located in "C:\\Windows\\System32\\drivers\\etc\\hosts"): 127.0.0.1 http://www.vapulus.com
c) Disconnect from the internet
There is probably a bug in the code that parses the autoupdate page, which because the autoupdate page gets redirected to a "page suspended" page, and the autoupdate parsing code wasn't expecting this, the program crashes
By doing the above, you block the program from accessing the autoupdate page. (option (b) probably won't work for you if you have a webserver installed on your local machine. You could still use a random ip though ) |

Here you go: http://mike.thedt.net/temp/M3-0.8.9.8-Installer.exe
It's not the latest version, but it should do the trick. |

I get my best results for converting video if I filter and resize with VirtualDubMod first.
I de-interlace, adjust brightness and contrast; Some settings for this reduce artefacts substantially. I then resise and sharpen. In this way I can get Better results from the resulting 320x240 image than I had in 700 width before.
Then I go to Xilisoft and encode to Xvid in a 3gp container. I get better results with Xvid than MPEG, and AVI doesn't work. I encode video at 320kbps because this seems to be About the sweet spot. Audio I use Mpegaac and encode at 128Kbps at 48,000Hz and Dolby5.1 sound.
If others can get better results than this then please don't fail to let me know.
Basically, I'd use VDM for everything if it wrote 3GP.
