x1387 only sells the k800 and that's where i want to buy it for use in the US.

brendon the k800 can work in the US but without the 3g tecnology so you wont be able to make videocalls or brownse the internet at very high speed. but the phone that is going to sell there is teh k790, k790 is exatly thesame as k800 exept for the 3g tecnology aailable in the k800, 3g tecnology is available in operator VIVO in brasil, and the other operatos are edge gsm. When i went to the US last month they never had any operators with 3g tech.

@jleosza - actually you're wrong on that one. The US Does indeed have Three 3G operators, but only one is a GSM operator (Cingular) and they are using a totally different frequency then the rest of the world, so only specially made phones can take advantage of it. As it is I've seen it in action and it's a LOT faster than regular UMTS, since it is HSDPA. I saw it benchmark infront of me at 1.2Mbps up AND down!

As this is relevant to this thread - the K800 won't work on this network since it's designed to work on the WCDMA 2100mhz for 3g. IIRC Cingular uses 1900 or 850 for their 3G... Not only will the K800 not work on 3G, it won't get any better than GPRS speeds, while the K790 at least has EDGE service, which is about 3x faster than GPRS.

Also the K800 does not have the 850mhz frequency which is being used more and more by Cingular as well as T-mobile in some areas (Arizona?).

K800 will work in the US. Your best shot is using it on tmobile. I don't know if a service provider will offer it. Tmobile definitely not. Cingular I do not know. On SE's US website they show the K790a as coming soon.

Check and see what frequency your phone company uses where you are. If they use 850mhz (which might be the case since SE has slated the K790a), then NO the K800 will NOT work.

Thanks jleosza, tervel and Residentevil.

I am using T-Mobile in the US between two cities, Los Angeles CA and Nashville TN. How do I find out what frequency is being used? Do you guys know?

Thanks and sorry for the lame-brain questions. I appreciate the enlightenment.

I'd honestly recommend waiting for the K790, can't be more than 1 month or two away. This way you're guaranteed to have a working phone in the US. Also, if (hopefully) the pre-release K790's show what the phone is trully going to be, it should a quad-band, which will give it max compatibility, kinda like the W810.

Here in the Dominican Republic, Orange, our only GSM provider, hasn't announced neither the K800 nor the K790, but I assume we will have the K790a. I will probably be buying it by December, regardless Orange is selling or not. I'll order it from the USA.

Hello all,

I have checked out a K800 in US today (in person) and it is working with BOTH T-mobile and Cingular. However, I am still waiting for the K790 (hopefully, lower price)

I don't think there was ever a doubt that it would work on either of the two GSM providers in the US. The question was - how Well it would work
