Change Vodafone Live button back into Activity Button |

I just turned a voda branded k750 "Vodafone Live" key back into the Activity Menu!!!
SO, hopefully this will also work on a w800, to enable proper activity button function.
Here's what you do -
1. Learn how to use far manager and darkmen's brilliant plugin to access the files on the k750 internal file system here
2. Use the far manager to find and edit the customize.xml file in this folder: \tpa\preset\custom.
Here is the section you have to edit:
Code:
|
<activity-menu>
<activity-menu-neweventstyle>false</activity-menu-neweventstyle>
<action-button-activates>true</action-button-activates>
</activity-menu>
|
|
The "action-button-activates" was originally "false". When set to "true" the middle button takes on activity menu status.
Once you have edited the file, you must copy it back to the phone, then turn the phone on and do a master reset (settings only is enough).

Oops....guess this works for branded K750s only.
I checked the customize.xml for both unbranded K750 as well as unbranded W800, none of them seem to possess that bit of xml code.

If the W800 doesn't have that in its code, I wonder what would happen if you added it.
Would that make the music button call the activity menu you think?

Where exactly is the tag nested?
Is it a direct child within or is it nested further under ?

It's directly after the profiles section. Note also the shortcuts section - use to customise shortcuts in Activity Menu and Joystick
Code:
|
- <mmi>
- <profile id="0">
<ring-volume>5</ring-volume>
<key-sound>silent</key-sound>
<vibrator>on-if-silent</vibrator>
</profile>
<profile id="1" />
<profile id="2" />
<profile id="3" />
<profile id="4" />
<profile id="5" />
<profile id="6" />
- <activity-menu>
<activity-menu-neweventstyle>false</activity-menu-neweventstyle>
<action-button-activates>true</action-button-activates>
</activity-menu>
- <shortcuts>
- <rocker-key>
<down>Phonebook</down>
<left>Msg_WriteNew</left>
<right>Menu_CalendarMain</right>
</rocker-key>
<shortcut>MainMenu</shortcut>
<shortcut>Sound_SetSilentMode_Id</shortcut>
<shortcut>SelectProfile_Id</shortcut>
<shortcut>BlueTooth_Settings</shortcut>
<shortcut>Settings_IR_Id</shortcut>
<shortcut>FileManager</shortcut>
<shortcut>Alarm_Id</shortcut>
</shortcuts>
- <settings>
<default-theme>Vodafone live!.thm</default-theme>
<default-screen-saver>Screensaver.gif</default-screen-saver>
<start-up-image>Startup.gif</start-up-image>
<shut-down-image>Shutdown.gif</shut-down-image>
</settings>
</mmi>

This is getting crazy.....where is the profiles part in customize.xml?
Are you sure it's the customize.xml found in FS:TPA\\Preset\\Custom ?
Here's the customize.xml of my fone, all i can see is the certificates and wap profiles. where did i miss something?

just put it in the -mmi section (after -mmi, but before settings). My optus branded cell has the profiles section but not the activity menu section.
Good luck! If you can get it to work I'll know it's worth converting from K750 to W800. Thanks for trying

Naah, didn't work. And pretty logical too - where will the activity menu come from if it isn't embedded in the firmware at all?
The reason why it worked with Voda K750 is that the Activity menu itself is embedded in the firmware, but disabled by the operators, which's not the case with W800.
Can someone fwd me the original(unedited) copy of [b]customize.xml[/] from any unbranded W800's?

Okay makes sense. Mind you , vodafone have a habbit of embedding their stuff in the main flash itself - so I was hopeful that if vodafone hadn't hard coded their vodafone live into the activity button, that there may be a chance that SE hadn't either. Oh well, back to the drawing board.
Thanks for giving it a go.

I'm still waiting for some genius to hack into the firmware and extract the Walkman (and flightmode for K750 users), and the activity menu (for W800 users).....

Probably the easiest way would be to make the W800 software look like the K750, then you would have the best of both worlds (Walkman Player, Flight Mode) but also have the activity menu (sort of).
K750i activity menu
W800i more shortcuts menu
There isn't that much difference between the K750's "activity" menu and the W800's "more shortcuts" if you forget about "New Events" (does anyone even use it? I prefer the pop ups personally) and "Bookmarks" (You can find these in "Internet Services").
So, probably the easiest way to have the best of both (to make the W800 software suit the K750 housing in my case) would be to swap the functions of the "up" shortcut (more shortcuts) and the /activity key (Walkman Player) on the W800's firmware. Then it'd work like th K750 with the added bonus of Flight Mode and Walkman Player.
I've only just started playing with FAR manager, so I don't have a clue how to implement what I've suggested, but I'm sure someone who knows what they're doing could.

yes it could be done, however I do still prefer the full activity menu. For example "more" often gets hijacked whereas activity button is always activity button.

Yeah, obviously full activity menu is better, and if someone can figure out how to rip it, that'd be great, but I think swapping "up" and is an acceptable alternative.

It's a good idea, and will suit some down to the ground. As I said it's still not enough for my own preference - I still won't be updating to w800 (aka flight mode and walkman media player) until I can have the proper activity menu.
