hi this is my first post and I hope you people can help me out, Just want to say that only registered today but have looked at the forums for about two weeks now and I'm hooked. I own a upgraded T68 and this by far the best phone I have owned, use to be a big Nokia fan (can I say that word) but I won't be going back, not after my T68.

OK I've seen many questions about setting up e-mail and I have tried to copy what people have done but when I try to send a mail it's says wrong password or mailbox, settings are below can anyone see if I have done anything wrong, your help is greatly appreciated.
I have signed up to yahoo.co.uk and the settings are below..

Inc Server 216.136.173.10
Incoming port 110
mailbox redemption662@yahoo.co.uk (have also tried redemption662)
password (my password)
outgoing server. 216.136.173.12
outgoing port 25
e.mail address, redemption662@yahoo.co.uk

Thanks once again to anyone who can help me

Rob

If memory serves me right, you can't use yahoo mail in your t68, try using another client like myrealbox.

From what I know: sending email is a problem because of the following situation:

In the early days we all dialed-in using a fixed modem to a dedicated phonenumber, owned by the ISP (in this case: Yahoo). Since the ISP knows that it is only their customers that are dialling in, they did not do a username/password check on their smtp (=outgoing) mailservers. The only thing they did was a check on their incoming or pop3- emailservers. So if you first check your mail on the pop3-server (WITH username/password) and then send some email via the smtp-server (WITHOUT username/password), it was accepted on the smtp. This trick is called "pop before smtp" and was enough secure because you are dialling in on their own phonenumber.

But in the GPRS world, you are coming from a totally strange network, so the ISP's want to be double safe that it is really you. Therefore most ISP's support only "authenticated smtp" when coming from a GPRS network, which means that you have to logon to their smtp-server WITH your username and password. This is supported on most PC's with Outlook/Outlook Express (make sure you enable the button "authenticated SMTP". So, no problems when using a PC and a gprs-modem.

But with the T68, problems start to arise: this phone does not support authenticated SMTP ... (at least, not in the old sw-versions).

The only alternative for sending email in the GPRS-world with a T68 is to use an ISP that does the good old "pop before smtp" trick. One example of such an ISP is GMX (www.gmx.net) which I frequently use to send out mails on my T68.

Hope this helps a little. I am very curious wether this problem has been solved in the latest R5D007...??
