Hi all,

recently bought a car and found that insurance is verryy expensive.

the cheapest i have found is on "budget" via confused.com ....

Using my dads no claims bonus and protecting it would cost £1140.

Any know of anything better? Can use my dads 6 years no claims but it needs to be protected

cheers

Depends on the car that your driving, pref the size of the engine, where the car is stored i.e if on the front drive more than in the garage and also have you done any other advanced driving courses? They tend to bring the insurance down also.

This whole phenomena is a mystery, wrapped in an enigma, wrapped in a government agenda.

If you have an alarm grade 3 or above you get cheaper insurance. Something like that.

£1000 is the cheapest you will get in my opinion, how old are you 17/18? that is reasonable i have known people your age to pay a hell of alot more than that.

not sure if youve tried a quote using this - get your dad to insure the car in his name as the main driver then you go onto his insurance as a named driver for the car. sometimes that can be cheaper for under 25 .
failing that shop around for a company that specialises in younger drivers or first time drivers i googled it and found some links you could try-

slattery69's suggestion is a good one, go as a named driver, but just remember when you do want to be put down as the owner it still may cost quite alot.

Not sure how it works, does the insurance become cheaper later on if you have been a named driver for a couple of years or not?

Failing that have a sex change!!!

just beware when youre a named driver as if you have an accident youre normally only covered third party....

Best thing to do is suck it up and pay the grand matey... that way (fingers crossed you'll have no crashes) and your insurance will go down next year.... im looking forward to this years quote... i will be 25 and have 5 years no claims - woohoo!

Yeah that is a good idea aswell, do that for a couple of years. Although my mum has been driving for years she has only owned a car for the last 4 years.

She started paying around £800 third party to start with now she is fully comprehensive with me insured fully aswell for like £300 a year. And i have never owned a car (been driving 2 1/2 years)

Being a women does have its advantages.
