Sony has announced the Memory Stick Data Rescue Service. This is a free, downloadable program.Supposedly the software can recover picture, video and office data files. The program is compatible with all Sony Memory Sticks sold since 1998.

The online tool requires customers to register the Memory Stick model name and serial number before download of the recovery software can begin. The software can recover .jpg (DCF format), MPEG1 and .mp4 (MS Video File Format) files, plus most office data files including Powerpoint and Word documents. Once the Memory Stick is plugged in, the software guides you through seven steps, during which the files are verified, recovered and resaved.

there's a freely available tool which can recover deleted files not only from flash cards(memory sticks, mmc,cf,etc) but even from the hard disk! Search for file recovery on google.if you cant find it i'll post the link.
if only i'd found it a month before i actually did, i would have a certain incriminating pic of a friend, which he deleted from my mmc.
I've tried that software and its great!

I've sent MS cards off to a contractor to get data off (for work). Will try this first next time though.

there are tons of free file recovery freeware's that work brilliantly on any removeable media (or even hard drives)

So nothing new, although it isn't common for media makers to release recovery software for their products, so I guess we should congratulate Sony for doing so.
