Ok let me set the scene here.

I am a loyal customer with hsbc for over 8 years now holding over 5 accounts with them and not just a few hundred in each, I trust them with my money, and I expect a decent service as they hold a substancial amount of my financial income. For this pleasue I get about £0.06 interest for ever thousand I hold in a general account.

Now I went to the bank today as I needed to pay another esato member for a few bits and bobs, and I needed just over 1k in cash which shouldnt be a problem, I bring my chequebooks and proof of my identitiy. At 20 past 3 I leave and it takes ten min to get there (driving like a crazy son of a bitch), needles to say im in the bank at half 3, and I actually see one of the casheeres pull down the blind for the cash desks.

I then ask a rather large clerk if I can withdraw money and they tell me No the cash desks are closed. So I ask can you open one and they say No. I then ask why and apparently its because the bank tills close at half past three (the time im there).

Now after a bit of an argument I walk out and drive back home, pissed off as hell as I just wasted my time, my fuel and other peoples time.

Id really liek to knwo when the banks no longer gave a sh*t about us the customers and closed right in front of customers?

Im in a bit of a dilema now, im actually so pissed off with my "bank" that im considering witdrawing all my money and doing all my dealings with another bank. Im not sure if I should do this, but im so appauled at the way I was treated I think id feel safer giving my money to afgan terroists or possibly the USA.

Why should the banks we trust our moeny to be such stuck up pricks who wont even help us when we need to. Really how much effort would it have taken for them to open up a desk and did what i needed?

I've had dealings with them, they are f*cking awful. Who the hell closes at 3.30???? Thats a joke. I switched to the Royal Bank of Scotland, and i've found them to be excellent - in fact, they go out of their way to help you. I wouldn't think twice about moving banks, HSBC really are terrible. Why not try First Direct, do it all online or over the phone?

AS far as i'm aware, yeah. They seem pretty good, they were the first internet/phone only bank and they know what they are doing. tbh i don't use them myself, my mate does and he says they are excellent.

language here is getting worse! lets try to moderate ourselves a little please.

as for changing banks, well I'm not sure any others are any better and if they are now, they won't be in future.

you're better off staying where you are even for credit status reasons (longer at one bank/address etc the better).

I can't remember the last time I went to a bank. I do it all online these days and if you're not into internet banking yet I'd suggest that as an alternative.

That way there is no rushing to the bank, being upset, etc etc. Its all done in your own time.

I do do internet banking, thats the first time ive been into my bank for about 5 months I think, but the money was supposed to be with this person today (only arranged it 5 min before I left as it was and as hsbc are only instant between hsbc accounts rather then any others so it was useless in this situation.

regading the language i presume you mean me as im generally pretty bad for that, so sorry for it but Im really bad when im upset*

and my credit rateing doesnt bother me one bit.

I'm just so shocked by the service I recieved as paying customers we deserve better then this! There used to be days when a clerks were actually usefull

after being messed around non stop by natwest i joined firstdirect over 3 years ago. They are superb and i wouldnt hesitate to recommend them to anyone. Phone line open 24/7 every day of the year - it is a uk call centre and you always get straight through and to someone who actually sounds enthusiastic and like they WANT to help you. Their online banking is also very simple and easy to use and i do 99% of everything i need to do on there. My online account also shows me my balance in all my other accounts (even if they are not firstdirect accounts - so all my other svaings and credit cards etc) and shows you your net worth. They also send me text messages to warn me if i am about to go overdrawn and send me a weekly mini statement via text every monday. Their interest rates are MILES better than the highstreet banks and their fees are low to - i use their sharedealing service which is only £9.95 per transaction. Finally another big plus point is that because firstdirect are part of the hsbc group you can still use any hsbs branch if you need to use the counter services for anything.

Ohh and they give £50 when you open a new account!

EDITED: accidentaly wrote HSBC when i meant firstdirect!!! dohhh!

and therein lies the problem I was trying to describe. Where one has a bad experience, another has a good one!

I'm with Lloyds now for 14 years and just when I think I have seen all their worst they prove they can do even worser.

but most of the time thnigs are fine, especially now I'm on internet banking.

The worst I get now is doing foreign transfers to Australia every month and this functionality is not yet on their internet banking and so I have to call someone with the details, they write it down, pass it to another person who creates a fax to a central location where someone transcribes it to an electronic form and then it gets sent.

3 times out of 12 each year it goes wrong and absolutely nothnig happens and I don't know for a day or 2 when I next check my account! arrrggghhh!

actually I arrived there probally at 29.5 past 3. And I do feel i have something to moan about, as a customer who brings them probally a few thousnd a year I think that I deserve a bit of respect and possibly a tiny bit of effort their side or maybe even a bit of help? I am leting them use my money for god knows what and what do I get £21.60 in interest and overall a crap service?

@joe any reasons in particular that causes you not to recomend them - just out of interest?

Well I had to phone them up for some reason, and gave the wrong password letter twice (although I’m 99% sure I gave the right one), but anyways they said cos I gave a wrong password I’d have to have a security check, which means they had to phone me back at home to confirm the phone number… they had the wrong phone number! I told them it’s a joint account and that my girlfriend will confirm the correct number. But no, they weren’t having none of that, they told me I had to go into a hsbc branch with my passport/driving licence, and get a member of stuff to call them up in my presence with the proof of who I am.

I thought I would be much easy for my partner to phone them up and confirm I wasn’t a fraudster seeing as its both our accounts but they weren’t having it. Just really p’d me off.

I’ll stick to the Halifax
