This is the question only about Sony Ericsson mobile phones, because Nokia has also some "all in one" models with quad-band GSM + 3G capability.

So, do you prefer mobile phone with quad-band GSM or three-band GSM + 3G? Why?

triband + 3G + EDGE

4th band is useless unless you spend time in the US or canada

I'm in the US and I have to agree with that.

The sad thing is the cell phone companies are so dominant they govern "what the customer wants" over here.
We don't have that many choices on handset, all handset are subsidy locked by the carrier, EDGE and/or 3G subscription are relatively expensive to have and some companies even limit/removed the capability of their phones (Bluetooth for example).

not much 'freedom' in US telecom land...

Therefore I'm not sad that in out country handsets are sold seperately. Especially the SE sets have all possibilities open. In the end that might just entice customers more to effectively use new features.

quad-band, Dual band UMTS, EDGE.

Just Cingular in the US has over 60mil subscribers, and from what I understand T-Mo is also using 850 in some locations in the states. Quad-band phone is a must for me since I do travel to Europe.

Agreed. I'd rather 3G over an extra band, especially seeing as I don't travel to the US much.
