I just brought a new shiny laptop which features a widescreen display, when i play a dvd it displays in 4:3 and leaves black boarders in the edge, how do i sort it out so when i play full screen it filles the whole screen?? its the advent 7102 laptop.

DVD software should have playback settings where you can change the view to 16.9.

Absolutely correct, but only if the DVD that you're watching supports widescreen. If it doesn't, the control might be greyed out or not there at all.

Just thought I'd mention it as this post reminded me of a customer who rang up complaining that a computer we sold him wouldn't play his Fawlty Towers DVD collection in widescreen!

if this isn't a widescreen movie then you could just crop the video to let it be 16:9 or even 221:100. You will lose big parts of the video but what the heck

on my laptop WMP left black bars on the side, powerDVD plays the movie in fullscreen
