Hi everybody.I was planning to buy a 2GB memcard. After searching for an answer on its compability with the P910 I found many threads but with no specific answer so I sent an e-mail to SE and recieved the following answer:

My e-mail:

Subject: Phones
Product: P910i

Opinion:
Hello
What I would like to ask is that I have a P910 and I've read that
everyone is using a 2Gb meory stick Pro Duo.
Contacting SE here in Greece I get the reply "only up to 1Gb".Due to
it's fat16 limits I know it can use 2gb.It was mentioned that a "2gb answer
could be found on SE support data base site online" which when I type
ANY question I get no answer. How is it that so many people are using 2gb
on their P910 and SE still says 1gb.I read that they are using SanDisk
2gb and it works great!Has SE tested a 2gb card on the P910?
Aside from your answer I'm going to buy the SanDisk 2gb card to see who
is correct.

Thank you for your time and hoping for your answer soon.

Sony Ericsson Online Support

Dear ***********,

Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Online Support.

I have looked into your question regarding the memory stick size
supported by the P910. Here is some information that I have gathered:
The Sony Ericsson K750/S700i/P800/P900/P910i/V800/Z800i/Z1010 can
currently only use file system FAT16 on the Memory Stick. The file system
FAT16 can support sizes up to 2 GB.
Perhaps the solution given to by SE in Greece was a solution that was
made prior to testing the phone with the 2GB stick. The 2GB Memory Stick
Duo Pro that your are planning on purchasing for your phone should work
just fine.

I'm sorry you wasted your time with as I have stated categorically here many times in many threads that 2gb memory stick does work fine with P910, as have many other members

Still, at least you got a response from which is a bonus!

sorry to go a bit off topic here, but if they all only have fat16 or whatever, does that mean they won't be able to take to new coming 4gb sticks, even the k750?

@sam_p900 The msduopro works fine after it is formated. I reckon.... About 2GB on P800. One could always format a 2GB card into a 128MB :-)

People, understand what you read:
"The Sony Ericsson K750/S700i/P800/P900/P910i/V800/Z800i/Z1010 can
currently only use file system FAT16 on the Memory Stick." <- this is only an information, that those models use FAT16 as their filesystem.
"The file system FAT16 can support sizes up to 2 GB." <- information about the filesystem ITSELF, not the phones capabilities (it does not imply that all those phones will handle those; this only means that they COULD handle up[ to 2gb 'data blocks')

Then, if what has been stated is true - combining the FAT16 restriction on the aformentioned phones, and FAT16's 2gb restriction when used on these phones, we should be concluding that 2gb is in fact the maximum capacity for the models listed here.

@ Jasond l think so too,if the phones use FAT16 and the MS has FAT16 then they CAN handle up to 2GB.I think it's possible.I guess we'll have to wait untill someone tries it,especially on P800/900.

Hi

The P800 and P900 cannot use more than 128MB because of firmware limitations. The slot is able to support it, but the firmware that reads it cannot. That is why when you upgrade a P900 to P910 firmware, the bigger sticks start to work. It isnt a hardware limitations, but a software/firmware.
