Anyone here know about the sony vaio VGN U750? Its a PDA sized XP PC.

SPECS
Supposed to weigh only 550gms (i.e 1.2lbs), and dynamism is selling them for $1800.

Am thinking about getting one of these. I was initially planning on going for the Oragami, but thay all have 7" screens, the U8G has a 5" screen and is much smaller, more PDA sized then the Orgami devices. And lastly its a Vaio , can hardly resist, any suggestions?

Arrived today, Its sooo tiny . Got the U750P (US version) and the Sony iLink External DVD+/-RW, Dynamism Offered the complete Combo (including the Dock, the screen protector, and the Fold-out keyboard) for USD 2400. IMO a good deal. Anyways, will post some pics later today.

@Esater: Actually tha isn't dynamism's fault, sony makes a very limited number of them. I actually got an email from Dynamism telling me that they got the stock. So I purchased it.

As I Promised, here are the pictures, and a tiny review.

Here are the front and back side of the Sony Vaio VGN-U750P

It is really small, its roughly the size of a PDA, Here is the

comparison with the Jasjar (Or the MDA Pro in this case)

The screen is quite bright, infact, so bright, that if i try to take a

picture of just the screen, my camera darkens all else.

This device is comfortable to use with both hands and one hand too.

There are three ways you can use this device:

1) Both hands holding the PC, thumbs on the screen.
2) On hand holding the pc, one hand holding he stylus and tapping on

the screen
3) One hand only, holding the pc and using thumb on the screen.

Unfortunately since I had to hold the camera in one hand, I only got

pictures of one handed operation.

The Vaio Comes with an Excellent Set of Earphones and a standard

Remote, these can be used with a very-media-center-like software that

is provided with the PC.

The Dock, is fairly complete, it has 4 USB Ports (3 at the back, and 1

at the side), a D-Sub Monitor Port, IEEE 1394 Firewire Port (Sony Likes

to call them iLink ), a LAN (i.e RJ-45) port, an Power-in Port

(for the Chargere) and also a Power-Out Port (this is for External Hard

Drive, DVD Drives etc.). Since the PC itself also has a USB Port, after

docking it has a FUll 5 USB Ports available!!

I purchased an External Sony iLink DVD +/- RW drive along with the

U750, this can be used as a bootable drive also.

I am yet to test the writing capabilities of this drive.

Sony Provides a full Fold-out keyboard with the U750, The keyboard also

has a mouse pointer and both the mouse buttons.

A simple Slip case for the keyboard is also present.

You can use the Dock, Keyboard and DVD Drive to get a full Desktop like

setup.

I am currently using a Bluetooth MS Adapter to connect to my phone,

I use it along with my 2GB MSD

A very functional (albeit slightly ugly) case is provided with the

vaio, While it may look like a soft case it is actually a hard case,

with soft lining inside, and a hard material in the middle, and finally

a canvas-like felling material outside. All in all you get the

impression, your $2000 PC is well protected.

The final accessory that comes in with the PC is the port replicator,

it is in operation similar to the dock, it has a LAN (RJ-45) Port, and

a D-SUB (Monitor) Port. It is useful for carrying around those

Powerpoint presentations and plugging into the Projector, last minuite.

Conclusion: For $2400 you get pretty much all the acessories and

everything you need to use with this wonderful Handtop PC. As for the

Performance of the PC, Dont Expect to run your CAD on it or Dont

expect this PC to Compile or Render large amounts of Code or Large

image files. However you can run your Office Suites and carry around

most of your music and some videos on it. You can even play some of the

games, I played about an hour of CS, it gave me excellent frame-rate,

and it was a lot of fun. Since this device gives upto 6Hrs of battery

time (with the large battery), you can get a decent bit of work done.

That concludes the mini-review. So what d'ya guys think?

The Specs are as follows:

You may also have heard of the Samsung Q1 (A.k.a Oragami)? It is also a device along the same lines.

It has the following specs:

Processor Intel Celeron M ULV (900MHz)
Chipset & Graphics 915 GMS Internal GFX
Memory 1 SODIMM Socket, DDRII 400
PCB 10L Build up PCB
LCD 7” WVGA (800 x 480)
Audio Phone out, 2 Array Mic, 2 x 2W Stereo Speakers
Storage 1.8” SFF HDD 20~60 GB
Communications 10/100 Ethernet, Mini card WLAN (802.11 b/g), Bluetooth
Multimedia Multimedia Instant On
I/O Port Phone out, DC-in, CF Card slot (Type 2), RJ45, 2 USB, VGA
User Interface 8 Way Stick, 4 User Key, 3 button (Auto Scale/ Enter/Menu), Hold, Volume Up/Down, Power/MIO, CAD
Battery 3.5Hrs Standard Battery, Over 1.40 Hrs DVD Playback
Dimension 227.5 x 139.5 x 24.5~26.5 mm
Weight 779g (w/o ODD)

At first I really wanted to go for the samsung, but i was deterred by the following points:

1) The samsung was heavier, It weighs 779g, while the Sony weighed 550g

2) The samsung is larger, it is 227.5 x 139.5 x 24.5~26.5 mm, whereas the sony is 167mm × 108mm × 26.4mm, that IMO is much smaller.

3) The samsung has a 800x480 screen, which is unusual, and (IMO) will not support/display many apps properly. The sony on the other hand has a standard 800x600 screen.

Since most other specs are the same, the sony was worth the extra $400.
