W810i thoughts one week on. |

So after having the phone for a week i thought i would share my thoughts to help anyone considering getting the phone.
Its a great looking phone, much better than the w800i & k750i. It feels better put together. The numerical buttons seem much better to the touch and very solid.
The centre d pad is very good and better than the joystick, feels stronger and less likely to go wrong.
The side cluster of buttons i have found to be very useful, and although small I have not found myself pressing the wrong buttons. they also feel much better built. the w800i and especially the k750i top buttons always felt loose and almost like they were going to fall out!
Screen wise, i find the w810 very bright and clear and good in the sun too.
Mp3 playback is good, no hissing (on mine anyway) and mp4 playback is excellent, volume has been raised. I always found the w800i to play mp4's very quiet.
All my w800i games play on the w810i in full screen with no problems.
The camera is again of high quality, no real difference to previous models.
I find having no lens cover an advantage as on the w800 & k750 i was always accidendly opening it when it went in and out of my pocket. the lens is still well protected from ware and tare being slightly indented in to the body. without the cover is makes the phone much more sleek.
The battery cover is much more solid, clips on very nice and stays there.
themes/pictures are basically the same, not really bothered about the flashlite side of things. There are new smileys for your texts, but whether these will show up when you send to another SE i am not sure.
Overall, I am very happy with the phone and feel its a worthwhile upgrade from the k750i/w800i. I know a lot of people are waiting for the new k series, but the w810i is all i need so its sticking with me!
of course these are my views and im sure not everyone feels the same!

Thank You for sharing that information with us, it will help many of us undecided members to possibly go for it.
Is the MP4 playback quality different to the W800/K750?

I am thinking of getting rid of my Nokia 6630 and getting a 810i from Orange but need to know about the contacts.
Is this phone still limited to only 5 numbers per contact, and only one of each type? So if you have a contact with more than one mobile number, you need to create a seperate entry for that contact.
Also, if you need to view home address or e-mail info, is this now possible without having to go in and edit the contact or can it now be viewed directly.
How well does it sync with Outlook?
Neil

Posting from my W810... Edge rocks on the w810. I've used quite a few edge enabled nokias but have never got such high speeds.

likely, a great factor in this is the browser built into the phone.
Have you tried Opera mini on an S40 nokia? are edge speeds any better then when youre on the default browser? if theyre not, then it must be some hardware or software component puts in their phones

npaisnel: that's one thing i envy from nokia (my sister's 5140i at least); having more than one type of number per contact; limits you to one number per type; but from experience this tends to complicate syncing with Outlook. For example, with two mobile numbers, when synched, one goes into the mail mobile field for outlook, the other goes to the business mobile, but there's no way you could tell which mobile goes to which.
then again, you can always use the business or other field for another mobile number.
what i do anyways, copy to phone memory only those numbers i regularly call/SMS. the rest, leave them in the SIM memory. i never found the need to keep track of more than 250 numbers anyways |

I love it, I have gone through the K700i and K750i and both I found had major problems with the joystick, however SE have finally seen the light and changed it for the W810i and used the circular d-pad and seperate button for selecting!
I'm quite lucky as I work for vodafone I got one of these for £50 with no line rental charges and very cheap calls/texts I was able to obtain an unlock code for free (perks of the job) and now use my older orange sim in this until the contract runs out. The only thing that bugs me is the vodafone logo on the bottom of the device which can be sorted easily I guess.
I don't think I'll use it for music as its nto really a repalcement for my 5g ipod... but i am able to store lots of videos and sounds for ringtones
Also to mention the device has a light sensor, in the daylight the phone doesnt light up the keys (obviously you can see them alread) and it churns up the brightness of the screen, when it gets darker the phone will gradually light up the keys and lower the brightness of the screen (very handy to conserve power and you dont need to be blinded at night right?) so once again Sony are bang on with battery power conservation!
As noted in other posts the keys are a lot better, they do look like they might get in the way but they really dont, also the number keys are very easy to press which again was a big flaw for the K700i |

But the quality is lousy... the silver coating in the 5-navigational button is starting to wear-off. I can clearly see some orange light passing through.

IMO the w810i is of a much better quality than the w800. w800 felt poorly built and like the buttons were going to fall off! |
