W810i and Cingular. Big Problems ( |

So I upgraded to a W810i and I'm having big problems with dropped calls. I can pretty much count on my phone dropping my calls every 5 minutes or so. And the odd thing is I get great reception...5 bars about everywhere. Does anyone know why this is happening and is anyone else having similar problems?
Besides that I love the phone...it does have a couple other annoying bugs though. But the dropped calls is the only thing that's a deal-breaker. I've owned a T68i, T616, P900, P910a,K700i, and S710a in the past and none of them have had problems on cingular. What's wrong with my phone!!!!???? |

Seem the wast majority having this problem are Cingular customers.

I tried calling SE and they said do a master reset and try a different sim card. I'm doubting that will fix my problem. |

I was having similiar problems when i went from AT&T to Cingular with my K700i. I called Cingular and they told me that even though they don't provide that particular phone model, they still need to know what phone model you have to you can get the correct "updates." I'm not sure what they mean by "updates," but once i did that my phone stopped dropping calls.

Well, I've called cingular and Sony Ericsson and so far I've gotten no help. I've done a master reset(no help) and I'm gonna try another sim card this weekend. But I don't think that's the problem either. I wonder if the US version of this phone will have this problem resolved. |

I Just bought this phone and previously had a k750i which after owning the k700i, i thought was a step down in reception. The k700i was awesome in reception. Then the k750i was a step down but still manageable. Now I have the w810i which I've waited so long for and want to love so much, yet I drop calls like flys even though there's full signal. My girlfriend says she might as well not bother talking to me it drops so much during our conversations now. I really wanted to love this phone, but it SUCKS!!! Want to know what sony says about the issue, check out this:

I'm sorry, but as much as I've waited for this phone and no matter how cool I think it is in features. It doesn't do what a phone is suppose to. Make and HOLD calls! |

REO:
I appreciate the link, however, I'm in sales for T-Mobile, and we do in fact utilize not only 1900, but the 850MHz band as well.
Mr Miyagi:
I think that's what Sony would like you to believe. But now I'm on day 2 using the w810i and I still have a ridiculous amount of dropped calls compared to my k750i, however, I've had less dropped calls today than I did yesterday. Maybe because it's a weekend and there's less traffic on the towers? Doubtful.
Sony Ericsson's Explanation:
Q: My phone shows a strong signal but I’m having problems when making calls – dropped calls, unable to place calls, or receive calls
"Tests performed between the phone and some networks reveal minor network incompatibility resulting in intermittent call processing issues. The issue only affects some newly introduced phones and occurs only on some networks. You may encounter this problem occasionally, in isolated areas, or not at all. Symptoms of this issue include dropped calls, and the inability to place or receive calls, even when the displays indicates a strong signal."
"Since the issue is caused by network incompatibility, there is not a problem with the phone. A network solution exists and many operators are working to implement it. This behavior may be more noticeable when roaming, since different operators are implementing the solution more aggressively than others."
To All:
In the link I provided previously which is also quoted above, Sony's explanation for their newer phones showing full signal yet still dropping several calls being due to a network incompatibility, and not a fault of the phone comes as an insult. I have been a Sony Ericsson fan for quite some time now and have bought a P910i, two K700i's, two K750i's, and now one W810i.
If their explanation is true in the slightest, why make a quad band phone where two of your US bands integrate poorly with networks you know aren't completely compatible yet? Why not instead, make the two US bands more seamlessly integrate with what the US market currently operates off of?
We all know it takes the US forever to get with the times and Sony should have made the phone expecting this too. Hey, if you're Sony and you know the rest of the world networks are ready for your technology but the US isn't, you consider that in the makings of your quad band phone. If the T-Mobile and Cingular aren't ready to provide a compatible solution for new Sony Ericsson phones, why make the customer suffer, instead, make lemonade. |

monkeemash can you no get the phone replaced with a new one from your network and try that phone and see how it works?? here in the UK we have 28 days from the time we have got the 1st phone to swap it for a new model, after 28 days you either get it repaired or refurbished model if it is the handset. |

No, unfortunately I got my w810i from a third party retailer who imports phones into the U.S.. So no refunds is his policy, but since I know the guy, he'll take it back at 15% restocking fee or I can resell it on ebay. I'm not sure either is much of a choice now. I mean, I love the phone, so much so that I'm trying to pray and hope the call dropping get's better.
Yet I know it's not a network issue and today I even tried a different make of sim card provided by T-Mobile, the carrier I work for. It's strange, it's like I'll always have dropped calls on this thing, but sometimes it goes a good 20-30 minutes before it does, and sometimes it drops every 5 seconds and sometimes after it drops I can't dial out again till I wait about 2 minutes or so.
The guy I purchased my w810 from has replaced mine once already and claims he's had not one complaint on over 12 he's already sold. If that's the case, why am I responding to someone having the same issue as mine who's on a diferent US network than me even?
I'm getting really bummed out. I think I just bought a really nice $500 walkman/sms device, but certainly didn't buy a phone. Haven't called Sony on it yet though cause I'm not sure about Sony overseas, but Sony Ericsson in the US tend to be idiots who wont claim responsibility. Great phones in the past, poor on the support.
I only keep comming back cause most of their products have been great ideas. Now if they could only back up and support every corner of their designs. |

Today I had enough. I reluctantly returned my w810i and am sticking to the k750i I was going to sell on ebay. So much for all that wasted design, rich screen color, and added features on the w810. What good is all that anyway without the phone doing what it's supposed to, hold a call? I'd still like to hear other w810i user's feedback. Please let me know on here. I'll be checking back from time to time. Good luck people. |
