It would be very interesting to see just how much of a price difference there will be between the W800 and the W700 by the time the latter becomes widely available... |

@marktang:
Although the specifications in the SE web it is still unclear whether w700 has autofocus or not. See the link provided by ants: http://www.imobile.com.au/Future/default.asp?ID=futureapr0601
In any case it is probably more expensive to change the specifications of the w800 to make a nearly identical phone than to keep the same model with a name and fascia change. Time will tell...
edit ---> It seems clear now that w700i lacks autofocus. I was wrong

i think u can trust the se website..if u compare the w700 to the w800 specs then u'll see the w700 doesnt have autofocus and whereas the w800 page it mentions autofocus |

I certainly trust mobilereview over imobile - if mobilereview say they have handled the phone and it doesn't have autofocus, then I believe 'em.
It makes sense. K is the imaging series, W is the walkman series. SE have made a clear distinction between the K and W series by firstly bringing out the K800/790 without a "W" version, and now by "re-releasing" the W800 as the W700 with dumbed down camera.
I still don't understand people's anguish over this phone. If you don't like it don't buy it. Personally I find the K750 more than suitable for listening to music (even though the music player is less useful - it's still more than adequate at playing music), but for those wanting a Walkman branded mobile there is the W810, or the W900 (in camera phones).
Those upset with the W700's lack of autofocus, buy a K750 Those upset with no longer having an "exclusive" phone, get a life! Sheesh. Exclusive mobile phones never stay that way for long no matter what you buy.
Want an exclusive phone? Here's an idea, paint your existing shell. Choose a colour you've never seen on a mobile. Nothing better than DIY. If you do it will be truly exclusive then - no one else will have one the same.

But according to this live pic, there's AF written on the bottom left of the camera ........so there's auto focus?

It most certainly does NOT have autofocus! However, the camera quality is quite good (it must be the same sensor from the K610i) so some people won't care. After all, it's a lot quicker to take photos. If it does become a cheap entry-level Walkman, it will be one of the best pre-pay phones money can buy. The small memory card is a good thing too, as 2GB cards are now around £70 (original, non fake) so I think there will be people out there wanting to pay even less for the phone to get NO memory card.
Anyway, just to confirm, it essentially has the W800i firmware on it. No NetFront, no over the air updates and probably no Flash Lite themes. I haven't checked to see if it works as a proper USB drive (like the W810i, W550i and W900i) but I'd be surprised to be honest.
And, if you do a status on the preview models...
...Oops!

from MobileBurn:
"Specifications and features are nearly identical to the Sony Ericsson W800. The only major difference is thelack of auto-focus on the 2MP camera. The device feels solid in the hand, and the keypad is superb. A notable mention is the fact that the Sony Ericsson W700 will be bundled with a 256MB Memory Stick PRO Duo, rather than the W800's 512MB.
These changes in specs should allow the W700 to sell for US$50 to US$100 less than the W800 did when it was first released."
so basically when the w700 comes out, it'll be the same as the current price of the w800 (in the "black market", anyway).

@grex
yes but too bad no one is throwing naothing at us in my country...
i'd really like a W800 but as i can't afford it maybe the W700 could be more affordable, though if the price is the same as W800 now, as it is mentioned in above posts, i'll still remain empty handed |

i think its just a phone for ppl that cant really afford a w800 but wants a more complete mp3 player phone. so i think its a good move by sony ericsson and of course im sure they did enough marketing research first before that roll out this model. |

SE page says it supports Flash Lite, so it's better than W800 in the themes parameter lol
