lol that isn't real is it?
Did you know that it is a common misconception that covering the face or head is part of Islam?
It's actually a country's cultural tradition integrated into the lifestyle?
Also, wearing the abaya (black robe) is extremely cool (sincé the silky feeling and flowing movement circulates air).
I think Iran went a bit overboard with the police. Ah well, it's their way of life.

i think its slightly extreme...
you gotta remember that iran is a shia country...
90% of worlds muslims are sunni...
thhat leaves 10% or less as shia or other...
so shia traditions are very very diifferent from sunni...
for example...think they showed on news alot...when shia people in iraq have there festivals...they kinda bleed themselves...by doing all sorts of things...sunni's do not do thigns like that...
by the way...as muslims we believe in 1 way...not two or three or whatever...however our beloved and noble Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) prophecised that muslims will turn into 70 sects...nearer to the end of time or day of judegement...he continued that only 1 sect will be a true sect of muslims and the rest of the 69 will go into hell...so its techiically wrong...but there we go...its prophecised so its going to happen...no stopping it...
check the bbc site...
they have some very useful stuff on islam...
kindest regards

some of my best friends are Shia. Although you are stating the facts, you shouldn't make it seem like Shia are the only ones that can be extreme. As a whole Iran has a totally different way of understanding and applying the religion.
edit: lets not make this a religious thread either, it was obviously just something that looked funny, I was pointing out how the abaya could be comfortable

Contrary to popular belief women in Iran and muslim women elsewhere choose to where the Abaya (veil)..people in the west assume that the women are forced to dress this way which simply isn't true!
