Superluminova: Q2. May-ish
Bob: experimenting with the market, i reckon. The only reason behind their decisions for the K610 that i can think of other than that is (1) they had to keep the size of the phone down by taking out the physical constraints associated with implementing autofocus in the cam shutter (2) with less components needed for less features, they can keep the size down. Re: the radio, I'm not an electronics guy but I'm trying to figure if it also requires some electronics in the connector area to allow the handsfree to act as a receiver; then again, they already implemented fastport in the K610, so here again it leads us that is trying to "segment" the market
Why I'm getting the W810 instead of this: (1) the walkman player is just too good to give up (2) autofocus should be a given for a 2MP cam (3) the flash!! the 2-diode flash!! (3) 3G is still new in my part of the world and rates are just skyrocketing expensive. EDGE is not very common either (my carrier doesnt have it, but the competition does); actually I don't surf the web all that much (4) bundled accessories! the price premium is easy to justify, see |

It's a little strange about the missing FM radio. According to all pictures of K610 I have seen so far, there is an icon that more looks like an old telephone set than a radio in the place where the radio icon is expected to be located in the 12-icon desktop. Also, I find no indication whatsoever about an FM radio in the specifications for this phone. Even though itīs possible to use streaming radio now when the 3G facilities are available in the K610, but that is a far more expensive way to listening to your favourite radio station than using a traditional FM radio receiver. A snap-on radio is an alternative, I had that om my T39, but it makes the phone much larger and more difficult to handle. However, I just recently downloaded the newest version of SonyEricsson's ThemesCreator (version 2.20) which also has support for K610 themes, and to my surprise, the preview display in the themes creator has a radio icon! Is this a glitch in the ThemesCreator design, or is the radio just missing in the current beta versions of the K610? |

- flash & autofocus & lens cover all need some room; apparently the point of this phone is to offer 3G in a slim body;
- maybe the FM radio was left out to please the 3G networks because it might lead you into their streaming audio
So the k610 is clearly not the w810-brother-successor of the k750. We have to wait, wait, wait. |

Really a nice phone with elegant design.
But I have my "old" question. Why can't SE made its first quadband GSM + UMTS (3G) phone?
If you travel a lot you need to carry two phones: one which includes GSM 850 and the other with UMTS. If you prefer to have one phone, you need to abandon either GSM 850 or UMTS.
Nokia already introduced two phones with quadband GSM + UMTS in last autumn: N80 and E61. So, with those phones you will have all in one: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and UMTS.

Even though that question is nothing to do with this topic, it has to be W800i all the way as it's an product

I really had my mind set o the k610: nice, businesslike, lots of room for music, camera ok since a better cam is bigger in the housing - but no radio? Apparently really no radio... very wierd indeed. I won't buy it because of that, rather go with the w810 instead. |

I like this phone and I can sort of see where are coming from with it.
They seem to be pitching this at a lower end which probably explains the lack of what some might see as even basic features - such as the radio, and a 2mp cam with no AF or flash.
What was the last mid-range phone with no flash? The T610
I would even go as far as to say this is more aimed at the 'fashion' as opposed to the 'business' people. (ie the SLVR, slim phones are definitely 'IN' at the moment).
It will be interesting to know the handset only price, I would expect it to be sub Ģ200 or around the same price as the K600i when that was launched.
