w800i camera problem |

Hi All,
Does anyone else have the same issue with the camera on w800i as me?
Open the lens cover, and the camera software starts. Point and fire, I get the regular shutter sound effect, and then phone immediately goes back to the main idle screen, closing the camera software. It does not save the photo.
This also happens if I choose the camera from the menu.
I've just updated the phone software via seus to see if it fixed the problem; it does not.
This seems really odd. Seems like a software type fault to me, although it definately worked when I first got the phone a few months ago.
Not sure if it's relevant: 512Mb ms duo is plugged in, and is nowhere near full.
Anyone else get this problem? Is there a workaround? or will I need to get my phone "repaired"?
Thanks

Are you sure you don't keep pressing the button after taking the shot? And when you go to file manager the picture is not there?
also, what firmware are you on?

definately not holding the button down too long. How do I find out firmware version?
Would a master reset help? How can I back up my phone book before doing a master reset?
Update: if i try to create a new mms message and go to the camera from there, a similar thing happens: the camera quits and it goes back to the compose mms screen, with no photo. |

I have had this once or twice with my k750i. But I found out what I was doing wrong. When the photo has been taken, I was not giving it enough time to save, before trying to either take more pictures or do something else with the phone. It says 'saving' when storing the photo, if you close the shutter before its saved, then it will either not save or wil save but won't give you a preview. I know this because I checked my pictures folder and one or two pictures were blank next to other pictures that I had previews of, so this is the conclusion I came to........but I cant be 100% sure, Einstein I am not!
Hope this helps.

The only thing I can think of is it could be a problem with the camera's ribbon cable? It could be slightly damaged or got a nick in it somewhere stopping the images been saved.

Thats an excellent point, i'm a tradesman and have dropped the phone a number of times, everytime the phones kept working, but i never checked the camera operation. I always knew in the back of my mind that all that technology packed into such a small enviroment (especially the camera)would come at a price of less impact tollorence.
In my case, you could be right on the money.
Like other people have posted, my problem was gradual, working some times and not others.... A very typical sign of phsyical failure. |

I reackon i've had mine for 18months, dropped it around 10 times that i count as good drops (made phone soft reboot, one time split cover from side piece about half a millimeter etc)
Joystick started failing at 10months
Camera started failing about 4 months ago
(joystick problem comes and goes, its just crap under the contacts, can fix it with some light compressed air) |

so, the better option is to get them checked in a service center or wherever. or you can easily buy a new phone and take care of it.
