W800i Camera mute? |

I've read plenty of posts, some saying that when putting your phone in silent mode it won't make those sounds (My friend has a K750 and indeed his does not make those sounds in camera mode when put in silent mode) while with others, like me, this does not work? Now am I right in thinking that this can only be fixed by updating with the davinci firmware or could a future update from SE possibly fix this? Since it's only disturbing in some occasions maybe it's worth waiting for an update from SE since my phone is perfect for the rest? It has the latest firmware btw, I updated with SE's program.

Depends on the branding too. Some phones have the sound, some w800i phones not. One thing that should help is taking the picture while making a call. I never tested it myself though. |

It also apparently seems to depend on what area of the world you are in (or what area the software is set to). Certainly in Australia I have not seen one phone where it is possible to dissable the shutter sound (even in silent mode).
Chances are if your phone has a shutter sound with it's current software, updating it through SEUS will not remove the shutter sound, but rather consider the software already on the phone and provide a more recent version of that - still with the shutter. The only way I managed to remove it, was indeed through DaVinci - this only silences the shutter in silent mode.
The DaVinci program has directions on how to do this on the main screen:
"To enable silince of camera shooter sound in
mute mode check finalization box and
press Flash button (don't need to make
firmware reflashing) after finalization, turn on
the phone and do Master Reset - settings
reset
is enough, don't need to make full reset."

I have a belgian W800i and I find it weird that my friends K750 is able to disable those sounds while not having touched the firmware. Maybe I'll update with the Davinci firmware sometime later but for now calling my voicmale and then taking pictures is the only solution. Maybe someone from Belgium knows of any free phone numbers that last longer than calling my voicemail?

@ butn - That thread links back to this one, butn. Not the most helpful link of the new decade

dumb question... but he davinci site isn't really clear on what the firmware really does. If I flash with their firmware will I see any differences besides me being able to disable those shutter sounds? I mean do the menus stay the same, do functions change?

DaVinci just updates the firmware and you won't notice any menu alterations or similar (unless of course you're coming from a Voda branded handset or the like...).
To see what changes have been made to the firmware from you current version, check out the K750i Firmware Overview thread.
To see what the current software version on your handset is, access the Utility Menu, by pressing >*<<*<* from standby, and then navigate to Software info in the Service Info menu.
You might also find some useful (however dense) flash advice in this thread posted by jockyw2001, or for possible DaVinci alternatives - try this thread by pappfer.
