R1AA008 - Impact of Parameter Incorrect bug |

I know the "Parameter incorrect" bug is being discussed in other posts. But there are so many other conversations going on in the main Firmware posts that a single subject gets lost and can not be properly addressed. So I would like this post to address nothing more than testing for the Parameter incorrect bug and the results. I'm on a mission to prove that this is a very real bug and more wide spread than people are giving it credit for. So I would like people to test for this bug and only report their results. Only do this if you have the R1AA008 F/W
The testing procedures is as follows:
1) Connect USB cable and use SE Filemanager to copy as many files from the phone memory to your P.C. as you can. If you don't have a large amount of files copy some MP3's and MID's to your phone memory. Watch your screen while the copy is in progress.
2) Leave the cable connected and copy the entire contents of your memory stick to your P.C. Make sure you have at least 100mb to copy.
3) If you did not get an error repeat the processes above several times to test properly as I have found that sometimes you will get no errors.
Below is my results - can everyone post results in the same format:
1) Results - Display corruption observed while copying. Phone reset it self and copy failed on 2 consecutive tests.
2) Result - Parameter Incorrect error message experienced in 2 consecutive tests. Error was at different points in the copy.
3) Results - Repeated twice and twice got errors |

Below is my results:
1) Results - Haven't had time to test this part
2) Result - Parameter Incorrect error message experienced in 5 consecutive tests. Error was at different points in the copy. (Around first 20% when I copy 800MB of contents)
3) Results - Repeated 5 times and 5 times got errors |

Well, I have the same bug since upgrading my W800i to R1AA008
I get the error everytime I try to copy more than about 100 mb at once from phone to pc...
I'd like to point out that changing the USB port like suggested in other threads didn't fix the problem at all.
Sometimes I get also another strange behaviour: when I connect my phone to the pc I can't access the memory stick so I have often to unplug it and then reconnect it until I can access the MS duo...
Very annoying bug IMHO.

Had the "incorrect parameter" only once shortly after upgrading to R1A008, did the reinstall of drivers in every usb port and havent been able to reproduce the error since.
Have made more than 20 test copys of the entire mssemc folder on the memorystick containing 350 mb to my computer, and not failed once.
since others have also tried the reinstall of drivers in every usb port with no success, this doesnt seem to be the reason why its now working for me.
Suggestion:
It could have to do with the phones internal communication with the memorystick rather than the phones communication with the computer.
Those still experiencing the error, could you please try hot plugging the memorycard, that is removing and reinserting the memorycard, while the phone is turned on (but not connected to the computer), then connect the phone to computer and retry copy from memorycard to computer.
The reason I suggest this, is because my phone would not start with the memorycard inserted after the update, only got the white flashing screen. Had to turn it on with the memorycard removed and then insert it when the phone was on. Since then theres been no problem accessing the memorycard or rebooting the phone with the card inserted. Could be you need some kind of reinitialisation of the internal communication by removing and reinserting the memorycard after the update.
Its a longshot, but doesnt hurt to try.

If you do a search for this error on google, there seems to be a load of devices that also suffer from similar issues. Never managed to find a solution... other than eventually a new driver was released and the problem went!! |

Yes, as I wrote in another thread, the "incorrect parameter" error in windows is usually caused by driver errors or driver conflicts. Many have experienced this for instance when going from an older S3 or nvidia graphics adaptor to a new graphics adaptor with new drivers.
Some of these were caused by the older drivers disabling parts of the plug'n play system in windows, and could only be cured by resetting plug'n play with a small util from microsoft called pnpreg.exe
This is why it Initially didnt look as a firmware error to me, and I searched for driver errors by letting it reinstall drivers in all usb ports.
But unfortunately it didnt seem to help for all, so the search continues.

The file transfer problems with F/W R1AA008 are not specific to USB. I have the same problems with transferring files via Bluetooth as well, both through SE File Manager and the drivers provided by Billionton (the vendor of my Bluetooth USB dongle). Copy and paste of the full contents of the Phone Memory folder fails with the phone rebooting, usually after just a few files. On my last attempt I got 15 files at a total size of 245KB.
No problems copying files *to* the phone though. |

Correct, trials have shown that its not down to the usb drivers.
Has anyone tried the other suggestion I made regarding hot plugging the memorycard in the phone and see if that helps ?

I've tried removing and inserting the memory - Still same problem. I have even reflashed with SEUS - it lets you do it time and time again. Last night I downloaded the next version of SEUS2 (2.2.11b) and reflashed my phone to see if anyhting would change. It is interesting that it downloaded a heap of files before it started flashing. Still got the bug parameter incorrect bug. |

ok, guess we can rule out the hotplugging also then.

That's right, this problem is specific to only MS DUO *to* PC...not the other way around. I wish they release a new Firmware that address this problem ASAP......... |

@chowkb:
I would expect that the bug is not limited to MS as I have the same problems when copying from phone memory as well. This makes it extremely difficult to backup the phone before firmware updates, full resets etc.
Edit: I have the same problems when accessing the phone from Linux so it does not seem to be an issue caused by the Windows drivers. Perhaps the OBEX driver in the phone could be the culprit here.
