No. It has to be connected to a computer to be unlocked.

I also was able to unlock a T28W with an unlock code. The unlock code unlocks the phone from the network provider. After it is unlocked the phone can be used with any SIM card and any network provider.
The phone originally was with voicestream here in the US. My Dad is now using it on T-mobile in Germany.

As long as you know the operator that provided the handset then yes, a code can be given. If you don't then you need to take it to somewhere that uses hardware to unlock it.

spot on gigs!

its normally the NCK thats locked on SE phones, your network operator can provide you with an NCK code for your phone upon payment of a fee.

then you type <**< when it says "insert sim" and enter the code and bobs your uncle!

I didn't think it was possible to unlock SE's via a code!

If people here have had it done using a code, then it sounds possible, and if that's the case how come we haven't seen a Sony Ericsson code generator like all those Nokia ones that are about?

because the unlock code 'NCK' (and also the others - unlock NSCK, unlock SPCK, unlock CCK, unlock PCK, unlock ECK, relock NCK, relock NSCK, relock SPCK, relock CCK, relock PCK, relock ECK) is not based just on imei & provider like in nokia. but with service cable it's possible to read out these codes and then type them to unlock (relock) the phone

it is possible that every phone that is sent out of the factory ahs it's codes already read from the phone, therefore they aren't calculated but bought out of a database which is why they need the imei to indentify it.

but thats just theory lol

The code is specific for "?". However, to get it from the operator you need to be customer for a certain period of time, your contract needs to be up or other requirements have to be met. You might be able to negotiate with the manager, if you are a good customer and there is no "flight risk".

You can unlock Sony Ericsson by code there are special databases for it

An example of one is the MMU server you login in via a web interface submit the imei of a phone u want to unlock and then wait for the code to arrive back with you.

You can see what I mean by using the test login for your self

username: test
password: test

login page
http://www.mymobileunlocked.com/mmuserver

You can also get codes from the operators themselfs these usually take up to 28 days and cost over £30 + VAT.
