It wants to reinstall XP when I wack in the CD and tells me some files will be lost unless I do a back up of them.
Wich files will I loose?

(PS No, it's not a crack, hack or anything like that. It's the real McCoy!)

All of your documents, music, movies, photos etc!

Treat it as a fresh install, back up all of your documents and media first and make sure you have the CDs / installer packages for your applications

OK, thanks.
I better leave it then.
I've got about 4500 pictures stored in that PC.

Yeah, I'd leave it until you absolutely need to reinstall, just in case. Media Centre is only XP with a few pretty bits and extra apps anyway

You had best start backing them up anyway.
You only need your computer to crash or have hard drive
failure & you could lose them anyway.

When they are all backed up you can then think about
installing media centre.

Do it now while everythings working!!!

Thanks, I'm in the prosess of copying them over to a free Norwegian pic storage center.
It's going to take a while though. After doing a fair bit of weeding I'm left with about 3300 pictures with an average size of 3,2MB.

Yeah, better safe than sorry. Id it an upgrade disk or just a straight install disk?

Obviously, an upgrade shouldn't delete your documents but I wouldn't bet my life on it!

Nah...
I'm draining my lap top completly to do a fresh installation from scratch.
As I move stuff back I'll delete a lot of crap I've collected on it over the years.
