Before anyone hounds me for not reading the other W800i posts, I have done already, from start to finish

Basically, I had my W800 for 28 hours (replaced my venerable K500i) and the 512MB Sandisk memory stick that came with it has not only corrupted, but seems to be completely and utterly dead.

Windows denies it exists, my 2 card readers deny it exists, my PSP denies it exists, my mates HP printer with card reader just says "Error reading card".

I have tried all sorts of recovery programs, including the one from Sandisks website, but they all refuse to do anything with the card.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I have heard Orange UK (who supplied the phone) deny it's a problem and won't accept returns and Sandisk are being less than helpful at the moment.

Has anyone else had a card this corrupted before or am I just unlucky? The phone also refuses to boot pastthe Sony Ericsson logo until the stick is removed.

Looking at my Event Log in XP, the only thing I can find is:
Code:
Event Type:	Warning

Event Source: Disk
Event Category: None
Event ID: 51
Date: 25/11/2005
Time: 22:23:09
User: N/A
Computer: JAMES-PC
Description:
An error was detected on device DeviceHarddisk3D during a paging operation.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I've attached some random pics of the errors in case that helps.

I've been loyal to Sony Ericsson for years (A1018, T200, K500), and this is the only phone that's actually given me problems out of all 4

Hoping you can help in some way,
James

28 hours eh! And they won't replace the card? Didn't the sticks come with a warranty? I believe you had every right to get it replaced..

Yeah, according to Sandisk they come with a 5yr warranty, but i have no proof of purchase as such because it was a free contract upgrade.

And Sandisk are US-based so i'm not sure how happy they will be taking one from the UK.

Other than that, great phone! hehe

The card reader detects it right? Atleast it says "error in card" can't you even format it? Or does the message pop up immediately after you insert the card..?

The only thing that remotely notices the card is disk manager in XP (says it's unreadable), try double clicking on the drive or choosing format and it just says there's no card inserted

Best thing is to talk to Orange or whoever your service provider…. I don’t think they can deny replacing it, cos it’s a standard accessory that comes with the phone, I mean the whole purpose of the W800 is to use it as a music player right ? so what use does it have without a memory stick ? Did you try contacting them ?

Definately wasnt NTFS, as I hadn't change the filesystem since I got it.

As for Orange, I may not need to, just got this reply from Sandisk, maybe it can help others in the UK:

Sorry to hear about ur problems mate, very unfortunate. Things is, how long are Sandisk going to take to replace your card? I wonder. The simple fact is, you will have the upgrade details on your latest Orange bill which shows when you got the phone. They shouldnt be making it hard for you to return the product, at the end of the day Orange have supplied you with defective products and you as the customer are entitled to get that exchanged.

Well techinically it's the memory card that died, and they have a 5 year warranty with Sandisk.

I just wont have the new one plugged into the phone when I connect, and I'll use my card reader.

Getting a new phone would be possible, but I've set everything up the way I like it, and looking at previous posts, would do the same thing again.

I'm gonna give one of those companies a call in my lunchbreak and see how I get on

James.

This is happening to way too many phones, and I for one am not sure it is a phone fault but a batch of faulty memory cards. Is there any way to find out build date or serial number for the cards, to see if they are all within a certain build or serial range. Mine did exactly the same thing, and was also only a matter of days old, but was the first time it was connected to the computer.

Well, before I ship mine off to Southampton in a little jiffy bag, here's the SN (as it appears on the card):

SDMSPD-512
AX0510BW

I have received an RMA number and will send it back today.

Just hoping it arrives quicker than:
