Hi!
We finally managed to write a driver for the Ericson CHA-10 Chatboard, so very soon you will be able to use it with yout favourite phone. The core is already working, we just need to make a nice user interface for it. Untill it will be ready I would like to know if anybody would be interested in such thing?
--- Edited:
Scroll down to download the beta version of the core and to read the instructions.

my current favourite phone is my k-jam... looking forward to use my CHA-10 with it though the inbuilt keyboard is pretty good
just kidding, of course although I do still have my old cha-10 in my drawer
what phones is this likely to support? presumably just the P series (which currently don't have chatboard support) but I'm wondering if people would use the chatboard in preference to to virtual keyboard on the P800 and P900, and the real keyboard on the P910?

I have a P800, so it will surely work with it, probably also with other P series. And that's it. Since it's a symbian application, and the only SE phones are the P series, it will work only with them.
The chatboard has some advantages also, it's much easier and quicker to write longer texts with it, since:
1) it's bigger then the onscreen keyboard
2) you can feel the buttons, it's much easier to type when you feel you are actually pressing buttons |

Hi!
I uploaded the current ugly version here:
testcomm.exe
Instructions:
1) first you need to unlock the Pxxx serial port, to do this, you must connect the phone to a PC with a serial/usb cable, open the serial port with a (hyper)terminal and send this emssage:
AT*ESYN=3
The phone should respond with OK, then no other AT command will be recogniuzed by the phone (untill it is restarted)
I'm using linux, and I used minicom, the device is /dev/usb/tts/0
You have to repeat this after each restart of the phone.
I'm afraid there is no other solution to solve this issue, but we are trying to find one.
2) copy the file testcomm.exe to the phone and execute it (DO NOT EXECUTE IT IN WINDOWS!)
Execute the exe (for example with sman).
If it shows some message, like RComm.Open() = -21, then port is not unlocked.
If it doesn't show anything (ie like if nothing happened), then it's probably working
3) Plug in the chatboard and start typing.
The number keys, standard symbols (! @ / ...) and letters will mostly work.
TO switch case use the Shift+Space combination.
When the case is switched, there are some problems with the 'space' and the '.' keys, we will solve this.
The other special keys are mapped like this:
WWW -> menu key, activates to pulldown menu (even in flipclosed mode, very funny )
Attach -> Left arrow (you can move the input cursor or the selected menu item with it)
E-mail -> Right arrow
SMS -> not yet used
Phonebook -> ENTER
YES -> Jog dial in
NO -> Escape (works only on some of the dialogs and in menus)
Left and rigth arrow keys -> up and down (it should work as the jog dial, but there are some issues)
---
Anyway, this version is for testing the functionality, and getting some feedbacks. What I would like to hear from you:
1) does it work on your phones
2) what functionality do you want from the app?
My current plan is to make a simple gui to allow remapping some of the keys.
Thanks in advance,
and any feedback is welcome (the program will be FREEWARE!)
--- Edit:
I updated the testcomm.exe, it now handles the characters well in cpaslock mode also.
I also added an utility to kill it:
killcomm.exe

i've got a CHA-10 for sale if anybody wants one.
With Ericsson and Nokia gone: we must keep their spirits alive and buy JOLLA or YOTA |

UPDATED:
* Key events are fixed (in some applications the keys were processed 2 or 3 times, now it's only one)
* The screen saver is not activated now when you are typing (ie key presses are treaded just like normal key presses)
* added CapsLock functionality to the SMS key (the chatboard's capslock functionality drives me crazy, and I think I'm not alone). By pressing the SMS key you can toggle between these modes:
1) default (process upper/lowercase keys as sent by the chatboard)
2) all uppercase
3) all lowercase
Any feedback is welcome!

despite my previous attempt at wit in this thread I think this is good work.
Actually, I have been on the lookout for a good unbranded P800 for quite a while and picked one up recently which will be delivered today or tomorrow.
so you can bet I'm going to give this a try with my chatboard and try to give some feedback very soon

And now this?
I really wanna have that, or other chatboard, to work on my p800. But if THEY ( Sony Ericsson ) won't alow us to buy an accesory of this kind, from THEM, at least for the next P990, then... I have nothing to say. |

An official big Thank You, space2! It's something like Comunicator. Ooops: even more ( it has touchscreen ). I'm thinking of making a cable to have more liberty.
Your app it's above all because it adds hardware value to the pxxx |

can this (old) program be used to receive data on phone from PC hyperterminal? |

Hmmm.... if you connect the phone with the PC via the serial port, open up hyperterminal, you could send the keycodes to the phone... What do you want to do exactly?

sorry for late reply, lost notifications of this thread...
I'd like to be able to receive data on phone from PC and "process" them; for example, to be able to write SMS on PC. Or to control phone from PC.
I know programs that do this already exist.
But they COST.
I want to write my own.
