I'd rather see this phone developed without a flip altogether and just use a touchscreen number pad (aka xda mini). Leave the flip for P990 with the full qwerty.

Yes SE - develop this for all of us no-flip users.

yes it would make a reasonably small handset then but still retain a qwerty via the touch pad. Or even just use character recognition.

I don't know how many of you have used P series phone's, but in the past they have all had the ability to have the flip removed and have a virtual flip...

so that's not an issue at all for non-flip users...

Best of both worlds!

Oh, and regarding the above post, they all have had, and will no doubt still have virtual keyboards too...

yeah, I'm familiar with the P series. I just meant if you preferred to use character recognition over qwerty on the touch screen you have a choice. I realise they all have qwerty's.

Regarding removing the flip, I'd still like to see it removed altogether (on a P970 - obviously not on the P990 which should retain the flip imo). If you don't have to allow for the hinge mechanism the handset can be even smaller.

I still can't understand why P970 won't have WIFI.
I hope that P970 will have the same features as P990 minus QWERTY and 3G only, the rest is the same.
I remember some reviews in my local magazines comparing P900/P910 to Nokia 9500 and one of the lack of P900/P910 is unavailability of WIFI.
Or will SE release another variant like P970 plus WIFI? Maybe P980? It will good if it is so.
Just a thought...

sorry, that made little sense... you say not having the flip is an issue if you DONT want an on body qwerty keyboard?

there is a touchscreen keyboard, and virtual flip. I really don't get your point...

Unless your talking about the p990, but i think we're talking about the p970 here mate, so that means no on body keyboard....

Thanks for the above pics, but doubt the p970 would use screen sizes different to the p990. So by the sound of things, the flip-closed and flip open screen sizes should be the same...

Also, about the p970 not having wi-fi, personally, i don't see it as a problem. If it would mean the phone is lighter and thinner. Ideally i suppose a Ms-duo wi-fi card would the solution for everyone to be happy. Wi-fi would be a nice extra though.

The flip hinge takes up hardly any space, and for it's pro's i think it's definately worth having. But obviously, if it was to be a flip-off phone alltogether I wouldn't mind at all, as that's the way i'd probably end up having it....

Very eager to get some real info on this now... Come on SE get it announced!

Funny you should mention that. When Sony had the Palm OS Organizers they did have teh memory stick WiFi module ONLY for Japan users; limited quantities but did away with it very quickly. MS Duo didnt exist then, SD cards were just around the horizon as well.

Visited the original site which post this picture and article

yup no doubt the same site is one of the first few tht reported mulan but in general I don't trust any china website rumour unless they show the actual product.

Its always B**S**T from China... I will only start believing when more picture of actual product is revealed.
