w800i handles contact info MISERABLY |

for a phone with 32 MB onboard memory and a 512MB memory stick with the package it is absurd that it can only keeps 500 contacts
it is also not possible to view the contact information without having to go into an edit mode
there is no search mode beyond the first letter of the contact name. the P900 did a good job with its search menu. how come the w800i has nothing at all of this kind
i hope those who have similar problems with their w800i make their own observations known openly so that the software developers can make the needed corrections to allow us to use this phone in a more productive way
thanks

Yes, all other firmwares but China has multi letter search in contactbook, this must have been mentioned a thousand times by now. This has been so ever since K700.
The CDA is irrellevant for the question.
500 contacts with up to 5 entries for a total of 2500 entries is by far enough for most people. And it has never been a secret, its information easily obtained before buying. I allways feel its silly to complain about features after buying the phone, when its so easy to get informed before buying.
P900 is a smartphone running an entirely different OS, comparing its features with a "simple" phone as K750 is as usual silly.
If one needs the advanced features of a smartphone like P900 then get a smartphone. No non-smartphone uses the generic memory for contacts, so the amount of mb internal or on memorycard has nothing to do with it.
I agree that not being able to see contact information without selecting edit is not optimal.

I totally agree.
I can NOT understand how could someone possibly need more entries than that... are they saving numbers that they see on street signs at random??
I mean, let's get real how many people can someone actually know and be in touch with at all times...

thanks for the comments and suggestions.
i shall find out how to get the non-china firmware loaded so that my w800i will have the multi search ability.
well as regards the need to have more than 500 contacts, that is a personal matter. but i having a business in the intital stages in two separate locations sort of doubles my list of friends, clients and suppliers. but it would really be great flexibility to personally determine how to allocate memory space as preferred.
finally i did not have to buy the phone, but got it as an incentive from my carrier for a subscription plan. the customer service staff from whom i inquired about the various specs of the free phones were convinced that the memory card could hold the contact info....but were all surprised when i could not do it. guess that the w800 is just too new and unknown around here. and their company regulations do not allow me to exchange it for another phone. and i believe that its just a matter of time and software development for these phone capabilities to be available.
once more thanks to all of you.

I don't own a K750 or W800 so I can't confirm this... I hope you guys can just try it out.
On the older Ericsson/SE phones, I think I remember that in the phonebook menu (options), you can select which fields are displayed.. name, mobile, office, etc... This is to customize and optimize the viewing mode suited to the end user.
I don't know if the current line-up still has this. Please check and confirm if this is possible. |

Just counted my contacts. There's 420 entries... not bad. |
